Great video. I think many people outside Japan just come to Japan and think "Japan weird lol", but there is usually a logic or reason behind how things are done there. If someone doesn't like the Japan way that's fine, but at least you are willing to understand it, instead of writing it off as just weird or just bad.

What a Grade A video. They keep getting better! The camerawork of course as well. Perhaps these new perspectives can be applied to how you make videos as well. Curious as to if they already have in some small ways.

Thanks @ddmproductions446! That's high praise 🥹 That's an interesting idea about applying these to videos. I wonder if trying to view others art from the perspective of what they are trying to build is something I picked up from going to The Art Institute so much growing up in Chicago, I never thought of that before 🤔

@ There’s a lot to be interpreted from how people function in their different daily spheres. Our behavior can communicate what’s on our minds or be a shield to hide it. Expressing all of what we’re thinking and feeling is hard to do through just words. Recently I’ve been trying to understand myself through more than just rumination. I’ve been enjoying seeing how you express yourself through video creation. A bit random, but I’m interested what music you’ve been listening to. Any artists or songs you recommend? I’m fairly open when it comes to new music
@josh_around14 күн бұрын
@@ddmproductions446 that's a good way to describe it. Watching back the adventures I've filmed and iterating on scripts during the video production process is very much like a dialog with myself about how I see the world. My music tastes run quite eclectic these days. I actually grew up playing drums in metal bands, so I still keep tabs on heavier music genres. In my day-to-day though, I've recently started getting into kpop, in part because it's so big here in Tokyo 🫶

Thanks @kjelliWWW, I'm glad you enjoyed it. 🎉 It was a lot of fun to put together-like getting to relive the adventure all over again!
Attended the language school for 2 years back when I was 33. Learning Japanese was the easy part. The hardest part was trying to juggle between school, doing baito part time job to be able to afford paying for current school tuition, rent and food, while at the dame time going through hell which is job hunting in Japan (especially as a non-native English speaker, meaning you aren't wanted anywhere), so I would be able to stay in Japan after school graduation, because going to college was too expensive to even think about. While also trying to find time and willpower to somehow do homework. Finding a day to go explore the country or basically have free time for yourself, other than sleep time, was like a luxury. There were students who worked like 2-3 part time jobs and even broke the "no more than 28 hour per week" rule just to be able to pay for school and college. Our class had older students I their 60-70s though, who were there just to study and then go home. So you can do it at any age if you have the will to study (and enough savings to sustain yourself during that period) you will have a good time.

I spent five years working on German and got no where, that was last millennium. I’ve now picked it up again the last two years and I’m finally seeing some progress with self directed learning. I couldn’t cope in a classroom. I’ve finally made it to starting on B1 level work (CERF) and I can understand the recorded A2 level exams available on KZbin, test as A2/B1 level on free online tests etc and talk about basic topics with my German colleagues. If I was dumped in the middle of Germany with no resources one of my colleagues told me they thought I’d PROBABLY not die. High praise indeed! Certainly an improvement over not being able to anything more than book a hotel room and order a pizza, which is what I could just about manage when I left school. I’ve been trying to learn to knit for forty years off and on, despite finding no difficulty with crochet. Knitting is very difficult for me. I have had to get special needles and use stitch markers every few stitches. I’ve had to try multiple different ways of holding the needles and yarn and accomplishing the stitches. It’s taken nearly a year this time to learn to do the two basic stitches. I’m finally getting somewhere. Ultimately, we’re all better at some things than others. Do you need to do the thing? Do you enjoy the journey? Are you particularly stubborn or interested in the challenge? If any of those are true you will find a way through. For me it just takes a long time and I have to find a method that works for me. I don’t learn in a normal way. But I can keep picking and choosing from other people until I find enough things that work that I make progress. Energy beating myself up is energy wasted. There are things I can do that others can’t. I’m too old to worry about some non existent competition. .

All this effort and tools seems a bit like a perfect procrastination technique
@josh_around3 ай бұрын
@timoblubb 😅 you know, I'm sure that's part of it! These days, my most efficient study routines are the ones that come most naturally-talking with friends in Japanese, reading books, listening to podcasts, etc. Since I don't have a way to control for enough variables, I can't say for sure if the progress I made this far was BECAUSE of the systems and tools or in spite of them.

Hey there @scruffy2629, I really appreciate you taking the time to write this! You are totally right, I need to remember how important it is to look back from time to time and appreciate how far I've come already. Five years ago, I never would have imagined I'd ever be as good as I am now at Japanese. I spend so much effort focusing on what's still left to learn (a lot) that I forget to be as grateful for as I should. Best of luck in your Japanese language learning journey. Definitely ignore those 2-years-to-N2 folks and tackle it at your own pace and I'm sure you'll exceed your expectations too! ✨

Well I appreciate your reply, but I still have a very long ways to go! I’m sure a native speaker would find my reply at the very least mildly amusing! Also writing and speaking are completely different matters. In writing you have time to think about a more natural way to say something. My speaking is a bit unnatural at best 😅
I’m not sure how many words you’re learning everyday for class but of course you need to prepare for class and make that the priority. And then if you have time go ahead an review (Anki or whatever). That makes total sense. It’s been a while since I was in school but I remember missing homework assignments because particularly in foreign language classes because I was tired at the end of the class and the teacher (as it seemed to me) didn’t make any effort to bring it to my attention. It seemed they would say it or write it when I wasn’t paying attention on purpose. After it happened a couple times I would check with the teacher on my way out for the homework. They found this annoying making me wonder if they really weren’t trying to sneak it in without me noticing 😂. (They probably just didn’t like repeating themselves)
