Interesting. I thought you'd be better than this. But I can see some influence from Matti, especially in the second. It would be better if you find the way to combine both. Oddly, now that Matti's gone, his work is becoming clearer to me. I guess it's true that sometimes genius can override our own study, our own pace, our own learnings. I sometimes think the Japanese dojo which practice in silence offer us the best opportunities to develop for intermediates and advanced. We, in the West, appear to be perpetually stuck teaching beginners and so we get wordy. Maybe, it's just our culture to talk rather than dance. Or maybe we think dancing, flowing, is showing off. Tall poppy syndrome?

I learnt a new word 'doddling' or 'dawdling': To move slowly, languidly, saunter. To waste time, to idle. I liked this video with its variations on kokyunage. Interesting what you say about pointing center to center at the moment of connection. Also of interest is to try to get uke to stick to you and fall without that. I seem to have discovered how, even on parallel lines. I know it's not the fashion these days but I asked 'the old man Ueshiba' and the answer came in a dream... I have been doing aikido since the age of three (or in utero, if you ask my Mum who was teaching aikido to the Japanese riot police while pregnant). Like you, I was Matti's friend. I'm sorry he's gone.

2:03 If Aikido principles stipulate working centre to centre then how do you explain this/his position from such a high grade?? Plus his energy is going in the direction of his butt on the cut. I know but, others need to know how to break it down. Only the momentum takes Uke through, not Aikido. We se this stuff being taught all the way through different aikido styles. Probably Lia zuzuki sensei does not but her senei is an exception/is xceptional.
