When I did my 500+ page, I started at 3 pm and got a normal amount of sleep and did nothing other than reading, sleeping, and eating. Give it another go!

📚🐝🐝🌞 I felt the same with Camp and really didn't like the "gay sex 101" section where they are on the island. Ugh. Not because it is gay, just because it is a "101" in a YA book.

I don't think I could manage a true 24-hour reading period - I love sleep too much and I'd get loopy lol. I could handle a 24 in 48 challenge - maybe that's a good middle ground for you next time.
@astarreads421422 күн бұрын
I love a good 24 in 48 hour challenge, which is usually all that I’m willing to do. But for HRCYED it has to be of this variety 😅😅
@justmartineАй бұрын
I don't honestly feel like most people actually succeed at these challenges. Timed reading challenges like this are really hard! Even with my 24 in 48s, it took a great deal of practice and failed attempts before I finally succeeded. You did great!
@astarreads421422 күн бұрын
Thank you! And I agree, which is why I feel fine about not succeeding, because I’m considering it practice lol.

The only reason I managed to get through both 24h marathons were two very long (7+ hours and 15+ hours) rides (train and bus) where I had no energy to do anything else. I don't think I could do it on a normal day, too many distractions 😅
@astarreads421422 күн бұрын
Yes. I can totally see this, I get distracted easily as well. And traveling is definitely a great way to be forced to sit for a long time and read.

Maybe cry a comic (saga is incredible!) or continue a GN series like heart stopper which can be a quick read
@astarreads421422 күн бұрын
I have definitely been interested in Saga. I also have several middle grade graphic novel series that I need to work on too. I will make wiser choices next time.

This was fun. I haven't gotten to this one or the 500 pages in a day yet... I've only read like 4 or 5 books since HRCYED began. I have yet to find an audio book narration I like, but when Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is released (next year, I believe) with full cas, I will give it another go. Honestly, I just enjoy sitting down with a physical book in my hands. Q/Stephanie is an avid reader. I've been watching her channel for years and years, and she never ceases to amaze me with the volume of books she reads. When it comes to audio books, she's used to listening to them at a much faster pace. I think she said at 2 or 2.5x normal speed... I don't like regular audio books, I couldn't deal with that, and I don't think I could keep up. I work on the phones all day, so that also kinda makes me turn away from audio. I plan to give Shipped a try. My Mom had her own travel agency in the early '00s, and we used to go to luncheons on cruise ships in Port Canaveral and Miami. She used to get all kinds of discounts, it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I get seasick, but she and my Dad had many great trips! Can't wait to see part-two. :)

I'm not doing HRCYED and I've never purposefully done a 24-hour readathon, but I know I can read a 500 pg book if I have no plans for the day! Loved the "what did I learn" section at the end, such a teacher approach 😅🤩

Oh my goodness. My brain made me completely forget about the Hardest Reading Challenge 🫣 I’ve tried so many 24 hour challenges in the past several years and every time I try, I suddenly can’t focus and end up not completing it 😅 at least now you have some tips for yourself to try to complete it next time 🙌🏻

I've tried and failed this one the first time too. I ended up dnf-ing my 300 page book. I just couldn't get into it. Kept putting it down too much and then couldn't find another option. My plan for next time is to choose an author I really enjoy and the other two books will be cozy mystery audiobooks from the series I listen to exclusively through Libby on audio. And I'll choose a 24 hour period where I have no plans for the day and ignore my phone and other distractions. I completed the 500 page book by reading Crank by Ellen Hopkins. It's told in verse so it was a very quick engaging read. I've learned I love to savor a 500 page novel so reading it quickly doesn't work for me but in verse is perfect. Really is turning out to be the hardest reading challenge. 😆
@JennikreadsАй бұрын
Ooof... I feel this in my bones. I think I've finished one 300+ page book in 24 hours and that was definitely pre-tiny human and when I was 10 years younger. LOL. 3 sounds like a herculean task! Loved your insights into how you might be able to accomplish it in the future!
@toniweller6008Ай бұрын
For the 500 page book challenge, I'm hoping to immersion read Obsidio (#3) in the Illuminae files. I think it will be faster because of all the mixed media. For the 3 books in 24 hours, I chose The Celebrants for the over 300 pg book (wouldn't recommend), Brides of High Hill (novella in the Singing Hills cycle by Nghi Vo (would recommend), and the 5th Heartstopper graphic novel, which I loved. Good luck!
