I was inspired by your video to build a version of your banjo. My background is as a woodworker (worked 17 years in cabinet shops and 40+ years amature woodworker) and I've only recently acquired access to the equipment allowing such a build. I'm at the stage of attaching the skin onto the wooden 'tone ring' (really an old tamborine) which I will do within the week. Then I'll tackle the neck and neck joint. Just thought you'd like to know. P.S. If you are sending out copies of your original banjo dimensions it would surely be handy for me go get one.

what does that aluminum banjo sound like behind you.?
@DrCharlesWAdamsАй бұрын
Sorry to disappoint but it’s not aluminum. It’s a walnut tone ring with a clear skin. I also built that. It had nylon strings. It’s seems very powerful and loud but I like it. There is a video about it in the playlist under instrument builds on my channel

Interesting concept there, Dr. Adams! I'm not sure if it is reverb or sympathetic resonance but there is some detectable difference after installing the springs. To my ears the guitar sounds somewhere between a 12 string guitar and a dulcimer.
@DrCharlesWAdamsАй бұрын
Thank you, I agree it does sound like a cross between the two instruments.

Interesting idea, never thought of doing that before, makes sense. I’m not sure I could tell the difference on the recording other than it seemed to sound more like a hammer dulcimer which would make sense because there are a lot of strings on those for resonance. In my opinion 12 strings always sound better in person than recorded, as the frequencies get canceled out when you are recording them. Lord bless you as well sir.

fascinatinga whole can of worms has been opened with that idea makes me wonder wether multiple strings secured from the back to the front of the body of an acoustic guitar would resonate in a similar way and a way to dampen them at will would be good too

Interesting thoughts, try it should be interesting

That is really neat!! Would you be all right if I asked what is the scale lenght you used?
@DrCharlesWAdams2 ай бұрын
Not at all, I’m happy to answer any questions. I used 20.5 inch scale length, and still tune to a standard tuning, making it very easy to play. There is a video on my build process under instrument builds on the playlist on my channel, you might find interesting.

@@dgreenja I built it myself, I just call it a traveler twelve. It has a short scale length of 20.5 inches but I still tune it the same as a standard guitar. There is a video about it on my channel under instrument builds, if you’re interested. Hope you like it.

Hi. Can you please tell me what is the nut dimensions? thank you
@DrCharlesWAdams2 ай бұрын
The nut would be 1 1/2 inches wide like the neck. Approximately 1/4” high and 1/4” deep. It has been a long time since I built that particular banjo and I sold it a couple years ago. I hope this helps you.
