Very nice vid. On the day of writing this comment, it's exactly 8 years and 2 days old. Is this an E46 or an E90? In the description it says saloon but the E46 was never made as a saloon body, only coupé and cabriolet. Soundwise it sounds like an E46 although that might be due to the quality. As regards the Stelvio pass, I'm really torn over whether it's the best driving road. It's too narrow and too twisty. Not enough fast, flowy corners. There are better pass roads such as Furka, Susten, the St. Bernards, and Col de la Bonnette.

actionmacaque Hello - it’s an E90 shot on a then-new iPhone. It’s a good road if you want some low-speed, tail-wagging fun but I agree, there are far better driving roads in the world. But that’s where I found myself on that day in that car so I shot a quick vid and stuck it up on YT just for fun. Fabulous car, a ridiculously cheap used buy these days. I’d like to take one down the Route Napoleon or Tail of the Dragon or across Snowdonia in Wales. :)

I'm just looking at buying an E90 saloon and was wondering how well they downshift into 1st under hard braking for switchbacks like this, after driving this road in my M5 last year. Seems to be fairly quick! thanks for posting :)

I live in Baja California, and here we have a mountain pass: La Rumorosa. It is not as difficult or as long as this, but it's fun to drive. I have a single video that shows no the complete tour, but after'll upload one when get a better camera.

Thanks for sharing this great video. I have to say you know how to drive. Which month was it when you drove the road? But it's not the Stelvio, it's the road from Bormio up to Stelvio? I drove it last year with my bro in my Focus ST. In my opinion it's one of the amazing roads in the alps. Anyway thanks again for sharing this grad vid. Regards from Germany

and the m3 gt2 isnt a production car, if bmw did not take le mans seriously, why would they bother spending millions of euros on developing and racing track cars there?

@dilawer321
@dilawer321 12 жыл бұрын
Your points are invalid, im not talking about racing cars im talking about the cars which are based on production vehicles, BMW does not take Le Mans seriously, anyone can tel you that, bmw is into saloon car racing, like BTCC and ETCC, you cannot compare a racing car to a road car, it does not mean anything. Its like me saying citroen has won the WRC more then anyone in the past 10 years, but it doesnt mean anything because their road cars are crap. BMW uses its PRODUCTION cars

@emptii94 12 жыл бұрын
audi has won the lemans 24h 10 times, bmw has won it once, and the m3 gt2 is not a saloon. I like both manufacturers as i'm a fan of german cars in general and im not saying one is better than the other but when it comes to rally and endurance racing audi has the edge on BMW for sure. but in the end BMW and Audis aren't really competitors, a man who dreams about a BMW would never buy and Audi and vice versa. Its all personal preference, non is worse than the other.

@whannel525 I think so. Right now family life and a new job mean less time to play but I will post more in future and I hope they won't disappoint. Good luck with the journalism - remember, being able to write clearly, concisely and in an entertain way is the most importantant thing. There are lots of car nuts out there - set yourself apart!

@whannel525 I started 12 years ago by writing loads of articles and submitting them to as many publications/websites as I could. You have to be able to write first and foremost. Eventually after months of perseverance I got an article published and that was it - I was off. It took years to make a wage out of it, though, and wasn't until I was a car mag editor that the really sweet invites (such as M3) started to arrive. I've since retired but these vids bring back great memories!

@MrConorTwomey I agree with you completely. The V8 Vantage is a better choice then. So if the Vantage wasn't overpowered then, do you believe it would be on par with the M3 in terms of its agility and precision?
@MrConorTwomey
@MrConorTwomey 12 жыл бұрын
@FeatherGlow1 I used to think the same. About 11 years ago I became a motoring journalist and worked very hard (and took lots of driver training) so I would eventually earn the right to get invited on launches like these. Never say never - you can do this too some day!

@Buttnut105 I'm a firm believer balancing power with the limitations of the chassis and I just felt the Astons had more power than the chassis could cope with. The M3 could take another 100hp easily but the fact the chassis was so unstressed made it playful and accessible. In other words, the Aston felt like it wanted to throw you into the hedges whereas the BMW just want to play and eventually get you home safely. Point to point, I bet the BMW was faster, too!

@080969msryan I grew up in Ireland and lived in Switzerland for a few years so I'm used to these kinds of roads. I also lived in Texas for a while and I never get used to the amount of space I had to play with there. Shame it was wet that day as the roads are just phenomenal. I was never able to exploit the power fully (not that you ever could on public roads)!

Thanks for posting this great video. I will never own a car like that nor will I ever get to drive on a road like that, so the closest I will get is to ride with you on KZbin. And it was just fabulous.
