I think it's really neat that even though LOTR Conquest is considered a baf game there is a whole community of fans who loved it for what it is to the point they are working on a fan remake

We could have had a cool bounty hunter game with Boba Fett but instead we got fucking Outlaws. Truly this is the worst timeline for Star Wars.

I had no idea a psuedo/spiritual sequel to LA Noire had ever been in development. I was under the impression Team Bondi went under and Rockstar decided to intervene in a development capacity (as opposed to serving as a publisher only in this case) and pick up where that studio had left off to complete LA Noire to get it out to market so they could recoup at least some of what was lost from the whole ordeal. I had never heard of "The Whore of the Orient", but I have certainly wished ever since playing the original LA Noire that Rockstar would decide to take on the task of making a true LA Noire sequel all on their own instead of letting the IP stagnate. Given that Rockstar did decide to release a VR version of LA Noire in 2017 as you note here, one would think that they are not quite done with the IP. Other than taking the opportunity to mess around with the novelty of VR technology, though, I have no idea why Rockstar would decide to make a VR game for LA Noire knowing full well that significantly fewer people own VR headsets than consoles or PCs. One might suggest that they were using that VR game to test whether there's still enough interest in what could become a full franchise, but if so, why test the waters by focusing on an audience that would already be smaller by default? That would not make any sense. I for one definitely wish there were more games like LA Noire out there. There are precious few games that design mysteries well and even fewer games where you get the opportunity to step into the shoes of a well-written and acted hardboiled film noir detective character. I have no interest in GTA and passing interest in Red Dead Redemption, so Rockstar would certainly have more out of my wallet if they decided to revive LA Noire and give it the proper franchise treatment it deserves.

They canceled it because they’re tired of making old characters famous that is the reason they did that Disney does not want old characters anymore. They want to come out with these new characters and the new characters are just total shit.

Still hoping this can come back one day. LucasFilms still has access to the trademark, and the higher ups have to know fans want this badly. If not a revival of this at least a spiritual successor.

3:22 Chris Avellone is not only a Falllout dev but also was made into a character in Fallout (1998). When you reached at him in the game, no dialogue was possible but if you insisted on clicking his character (three times, if I remember correctly), he would attack you after warning you about getting bothered. Inside joke, I guess...

I have been compiling a text file of all the games that let you import your characters from the previous games into the subsequent games and I can tell you there are over 50 entries in it, haha. Admittedly it was much more common in late 1980s/early 1990s games and then fairly rare again outside of a handful of more modern examples; my favorite is how you can import your Dead Island character directly to Dead Island: Riptide, as nobody ever talks about that ability

To this day, I wish/hope We get Lucas' multimedia initiative of SW: Underworld, SW: 1313 (be it about a brand new bounty hunter or Boba Fett), which was supposed to tie in with the Coruscant Nights trilogy of books. Even the video game, Ragtag seems interesting. Once, StageCraft/The Volume was created, I don't understand why Kennedy & Co. didn't attempt to relaunch Lucas' series, instead of green-lighting something like, Andor. Then again, it seems Kennedy (and Disney) very much wanted to do original things, without being connected to George Lucas' plans and ideas...which makes absolutely NO SENSE. Thanks for the distillation, Man.

I sort of get the impression that its more developed pieces did get used in places and repurposed at least in some way, again the Rogue One connection and I think the feel of Andor sort of started from there but yeah, it's weird nothing more has been seen. I know that writer's guilds are very protective of who made what characters and returning to those 50-odd scripts would mean paying those writers royalties (this is why ILM's John Knoll has a writing credit on Rogue One), plus that time period getting really busy in the new canon and the way it sounds like little regard was given to the budget of the episodes all kind of pile on to mean that what was actually usable would involve rewriting, repurposing and potential legal headaches for a true post-buyout Underworld project. That being said, I would give almost anything to read even a single script from that writer's room.

Admittedly, nostalgia for having played TWINE at the time and Timesplitters lacking in single player content otherwise. It was a big oversight on my part (a little like not mentioning the PD remake) but I've actually played a bit more now that it's on NSO and I'm inclined to agree with you

Battlefront 1 and 2 were my "sick" games as a kid/teen. Every time I'd be sick for a day or two, I'd get situated on the couch, put them in, and play some between bouts of sleep. Battlefront 2's "Galactic Conquest" was such a simple idea that gave the sensation of replayability despite it mainly being a collection of map sequences, I loved it. It's crazy to think that they got BF2 out the door in the same time span that Kotor 2 did all things considered. In years prior my friends and I would call Pandemic "the best 7 out of 10 studio" for video games, but in retrospect when it came to Mercenaries and Battlefront 2, that really wasn't true at all, was it?
@LuckStat
@LuckStat 28 күн бұрын
Fittingly, I edited and recorded much of the game footage while sick. There's nothing wrong with being a 7 out of 10 studio, feels like we don't get a lot of them these days, but you're definitely right, Mercenaries and BF 2 were well above that.

I Preordered this game digitally on Xbox and have yet to play it. I want to replay the first game and then Riptide and then play this one. I went and looked on the store and seen i missed the new Sola DLC which i immediately bought, already purchased Haus DLC when it released and i never bought the expansion pass which possibly would've been cheaper. It's even on Game Pass ... I hope we get Dead Island 3

Just discovered your channel after looking up what happened to Star Wars 1313 and, I have to say, I'm really impressed with the quality! It's a shame what happened to Pandemic, but EA buying a studio and then driving it into the grave is unfortunately a tale as old as gaming. I didn't realize just how many of my favorite games when I was younger were released by Pandemic until this video, which just makes their closure even sadder.

Pandemic pitched lucasarts bf3 it had space to ground combat and you could look at your feet in first person. But lucasarts wanted them to do it in a year again which caused them to pull out to avoid another year of crunch, and sceptical that they would be able to upgrade zero engine to next gen standards in time
@LuckStat

@dingusbingus7463
@dingusbingus7463 Ай бұрын
The biggest problem is that with that time crunch they decided to use funding given to them for bf3 on their own IP, which they were using to design the engine used on bf3, so indirectly using the funding for bf3 got it shut down, what they were doing makes sense from a development standpoint, but from the standpoint of lucasarts it's like you did WHAT with our money?
@battlefrontarchives
@battlefrontarchives Ай бұрын
@@dingusbingus7463 that’s not true Money from BF3 was never ever used on HAZE lucasarts made that shit up. Now I do suspect that FRD was using money from BF3 to develop TS4 at the end because they literally had no publisher paying for it but yet resources where still being put into it despight no publisher picking it up. But I think that only started to happen after lucasarts canceled bf4 because the new version of the engine they developed for it is what TS4 used not only that but TS4’s leaked demo is actually just a fusion of Timesplitters 3 code and BF4 tech. Cubemaps for bf4 can be found in TS4 aswell as particle code from bf3

What a shame, they came in with a bang in the early 2000's, and died not 10 years later. Their early games laid a super similar impact for me, I still love mercs 1. I got my 360 in 2010, so it really felt like a postmortem playing their latter half games from Blockbuster. Fantastic video, can't wait to find out more about the games when I was a little one

AC was a downgrade from POP imo. In POP there was a challenge to the parkouring and fighting and they removed that in AC. They also removed a bunch of key moves from the POP combat and platforming, such as horizontal wall running, swinging all the way around poles, rolling during combat, jumping over enemies and transitioning vertical wall running to jumping over enemies. Total shame, AC didn't live up to what it could have been.

Gotta agree with you there man, imagine seeing the studio you worked in that made so many great games get strangled by EA, and then when you find a new job working on Halo you're just in time to work on the game that almost all fans agree was the worst one. The stories of all the mismanagement at 343 are wild, hopefully those former devs found somewhere that values their talent now if they're still in the business.
