We got to talking in my ttrpg groups about our middle school music teachers and I had to look this up after like... 20 years. It's been too long. I need to get my viola in working order again. Got peg compound recently to do just that. But, strings are gonna need to take some time.

One of McBeth’s finest of many superb compositions! The work is so interwoven with the novel in nuance and emotion. I never get tired of hearing or directing it!

This piece was written for my High School, Avon Lake High School in Ohio, and Francis McBeth conducted the premiere, and it was incredible. I played Timpani, a very challenging piece. He even rewrote parts of it at rehearsals before the show, and we all had to hand write on his already hand written parts to change it. What a thrill.

Brings back memories being in the band in high school. I started out with the trumpet but the band director suggested that I switch to baritone which is my singing voice.

McBeth is really good at pairing a picture with how he structured his chord clusters, his orchestration is top notch to say the least

The most symphonic band suite I ever had the chance of playing. And we played a LOT of symphony transcriptions at UAM; not every day one gets to play their trombone AND sing in Symphonic Band -- usually had to walk upstairs to do the latter. 😅

the absolute most chaotic score of time changes I have ever played in symphony. 7/16 straight to a 5/3 ffs. seems like every other line was a different time. Your foot cannot keep time like that it is a muscle memory song, yet the most beautiful piece I ever have been honored to play as first chair all state trombone 30 years ago
