There's not even a competition here. Wild enhancement with the 4K. The old Blu-Ray looks like an over compressed DVD.

This film is almost as good as Fury Road, so glad the transfer is excellent! Can't wait to watch it at home!

As a huge MAD MAX fan of forty-five years, it's dismaying that this is the only film in the series that I have mixed feelings about. As a fan of fantastic transfers, to my eyes this one looks absolutely stunning.

Is it considered a hot take to find this movie visually stunning ?

Way better encoded and sharper than the dated Blu-ray by a mile
@Eva01-jy2qu7pu9r4 күн бұрын
I'm not a fan of the movie, but the transfer is exceptional from start to finish. Whoever did the encoding for this disc did a flawless job
Still the best version of the movie. The 2012 Blu-ray has a weird color grading only seen in that version which makes it weird.

I own the 1999 Special Edition DVD of Aliens. That's the only version I watch and own. Every other edition after that (DVD, Blu-ray, 4K), they messed with the color timing and added that ugly bluish teal.

Massive teal orange screw up of scenes in ancient India... Blue garment from Siddharta is completely wiped out. Big fail

I honestly only really noticed a change in ghostface and the scenes in amber’s/Stu’s house because those scenes were much darker still gonna get the steelbook though thanks for the vid

Thank you for this video. I wasn’t sure if upgrading to this from the blu-ray would be worth it, but this completely sold me.

Thank you for this comparison. I think this, and the fact that I think that HDR is generally done exceptionally badly in most films just reinforces why I don't buy 4k Ultra HD films.

Appreciate the content as always. This movie is so ugly though. Dawn and War had so much contrast and deep black levels that made those movies visually striking and this movie looks like a Netflix show. It’s a shame.

What? It looks fantastic in Dolby Vision on Disney+, plenty of contrast and deep blacks.

Beau mais chiant et trop long ! Façon Dune ! Le cinéma d’aujourd’hui 😢
Les 4k des films de Villeneuve valent souvent le coup. Ses films ont cet aspect texturé qui ressort toujours bien en UHD.

We aim to provide illustrations of the various contributions in an isolated manner, focusing on key aspects such as definition, restoration efforts, Wide Color Gamut usage, and dynamic range contributions. This careful approach allows us to better understand the impact of each factor while minimizing potential distortions that could arise from comparing SDR and HDR content on KZbin in HDR. Specifically, encapsulating original SDR content (at 100 nits) from a Blu-ray disc (1080p) into the same HDR container (without inverse tone mapping) can lead to various distortions, hindering our ability to accurately isolate those variables. Furthermore, we seek to guard against the significant issues arising from poor tone mapping by KZbin for viewers accessing HDR content on SDR screens, which still constitute the majority of users. This inconsistency completely undermines the comparative approach, making it impossible to obtain reliable insights into the respective nuances of the different masters.

@peterm.435517 күн бұрын
It's a 2007 movie full of VFX & finished at 2K, what else did you expected?

@peterm.435516 күн бұрын
@@raffa7282By what exactly? That it looks better than the Blu-ray?
@MsMarco68 күн бұрын
@@raffa7282 Why would that disappoint you? The film was made at 2k, they can't magic it up to 4k. This is literally the best the film could possibly look, they took the original footage, applied a nice new colour grade & presented it with a far higher bitrate than the old Blu-Ray, this is quite literally a perfect remaster. So unless you where hoping for an AI upscale, I'd suggest your expectations where flawed. And BTW due to the difference between the 2048x858 DCI & 1920x1080 Blu-ray, this release is about 14% higher resolution than the old Blu-ray so you are getting additional detail even before mentioning the almost doubled bitrate.

Looks nice, but I would love more diverse choice of shots showing vistas & VFX.
I have to Say that the blu ray holds up pretty damn good. I mean I absolutely Adore the new 4k restoration, but I just think my blu ray, for the time where It was made (2011) Is still an invredibly fine piece and I don't feel any urge to upgrade for now.
@VHSki19 күн бұрын
I love "Comparsion" but I hate "Conclusion" in many reviews not just this one. You're doing a great job, keep it up, but don't be afraid of criticism... of remasters.

Given how stylized Bertolucci and Storaro are, I wouldn't be surprised if the 4K is more accurate.

Bertolucci shot this in 65mm. Not that you'd know that given how standard it has appeared on every single home video release. Including this one.

Hm, with the drastic change in color timing, I would probably want to do some research on how the filmed looked originally in theaters and which color timing is more "accurate" to that.
This is a Sony PS5 Pro like improvement....come on...bring on the controversy!

For me personally one of the best movies of the last years. The difference is noticable. But here you can grab the Blu-ray for shure. On an OLED TV the Blu-ray seems to be brighter, too. The 4K is darker. But it fits to the dark tone of the movie.
