Hey thank you for adding Shadows of a Lost Hollow in this! For those curious, the Elmerïan Chronicles novellas can be read at anytime. Before the series. After. During. They're both prequels and meant to build out the world more so than to add to the main novels' timeline. Personally, I'd say this order, however, for best impact: Whispers of a World Breaker ->Ashes of a Risen Empire Bloods of a Withering Kingdom ->Shadows of a Lost Hollow Ruins of a Shattered Dawn

Hi Abel. This is Peter, the author of Battle Mage here. Delighted to be included in your latest video among so many other cool books! And @Grimm44 is correct. Battle Mage is a stand-alone book, but I am currently working on a prequel, which will then lead on to a sequel. So BM will essentially be the first book in a three book series. The idea of calling it "Book 1" is to make it clear that people would be better to read the main book first so as to avoid spoilers. Hope that makes it clearer and thanks again for the kind words :)

Oh yes, Stargate! Loved that movie so much lol. I still need to watch the TV show too 😂. The Engineer sounds cool. I put Contagion on my list as well and Powerless, which sounds really intriguing too! I’ve heard of the Children of Time books. Funny to hear that the aliens stole the show! 👽 also good to know it can be read as a standalone. Woah, connecting to a POV that is mysteriously dead in the future timeline sounds intriguing! Great wrap up and review of these new (to me!) books! I wish I had more time to read too 😊

As a novelist I can personally say that Jeff Brown is awesome to work with. He did my covers for the first three books of my current series I am working on. This is an awesome break down of these books that comes across highly personal and engaging. Please keep doing this because it brings a personal touch to books that Sci-Fi and fantasy books deserve. Thank you for all these book reviews and I look forward to what you bring in the future.

Every time I think I am in the know of all the hidden gems, you manage to destroy my TBR once again with so many underhyped books hahah. Nomads of the Sea and Salt in the Wound have been on my TBR for a shamefully long time though, I need to get to them! Also love to hear that you are enjoying your current reads so much. Beautifully said about Janny's prose! I initially thought I struggled with that because English is not my native language, but you helped me realise that I just needed to give it more patience and room to breathe. Appreciate you! 🥰
@bookswithabel
@bookswithabel 27 күн бұрын
Thank you Esmay, always a great pleasure to read your comments! Yeah, a lot of really interesting stuff. I'll definitely need to buy more bookshelves lol. About Janny's books, they ARE INDEED, really complex and challenging (and I totally understand the struggle with non native readers, of course), but I think that in the end the effort will be repaired. I'm just annoyed with people who dismiss the book as pretentious or something 🤣 But yeah, it is absolutely on another level language wise, and it's totally fine to give it a proper try and decide it's too much, especially for people searching for something more quick or easily digestible. Anyway, thank you for watching 🤟🏽
@esmayrosalyne

I hate when people use the language, particularly when it is a tad elevated from the daily vocabulary, as a reason to describe a book as "difficult"... To me, difficulty comes with low quality, not with complex prose, and Janny's work is absolutely worth the effort! I personally didn't find it difficult at all. It is a whole another thing to just say that it doesn't speak to you or is just not your cup of tea. That is totally fine. We all like different things. But no reason to label something "difficult"just because it might not jive with your reading preferences....
@bookswithabel
@bookswithabel 28 күн бұрын
To be fair, I understand that much of modern fantasy literature is written differently, often with the goal of being palatable to the widest possible audience, so it is written in an extremely simple way. A reader who has read a lot of books like that may find himself a little lost when he faces a book like The Curse or The Mustwraith, which I think is consciously written in a more complex way. But it also bothers me when people criticize that complexity without really giving such interesting books a chance.
@chokog2446
@chokog2446 27 күн бұрын
@@bookswithabel Exactly! The thing is, often new readers get intimated by this style of writing, and as you said, kind of give up. I just want them to know that just because it is different from what they are used to, it doesn't mean it is difficult. It is just different and I wish they would give these books a chance. I think the long time readers who speak of these books as "scary" and "difficult" do them a disservice, because it intimidates the potential reader and gives them an excuse to give up at the first moment they encounter a more complex passage. You don't do that. Actually, you are very good at explaining that despite the different prose or structure, these books are something they should pursue and I am very grateful to you for that 😊👍
