There are mystical, paranormal experiences that happen within these cycles. The existential and emotional experience of these stages, especially first time, is strangely very sad, yet contain great compensations. 'Intolerable is thine ache, and incurable thy wound. Behold where thine Angel hath led thee! Thou DIDST ask fame, power and pleasure, health and wealth and love, and strength, and length of days. Thou didst hold life with eight tentacles, like an octopus. The mystery thereof is great and terrible. And it shall not be spoken in sight of the sun' - (Ungratefully in sight of that which enabled all life's desires and so too this, life's universal and one way lesson).

Thank you, Goddess of Dharma, I was caught in the obstacle of doubt about whether to feel the breath at the nostrils or not, but you have given me further confirmation that it doesn't matter where you feel the breath (the important thing is to feel it)! Ajahn Brahm also advises the same. 🙏

Thank you, Beth! This has been my struggle. :) When I practice at home, I get tense and uncertain, because deep down I'm afraid I won't get anywhere with only 2-3 hours a day for practice. When I was at a short retreat, I was able to relax and it really did turn out that I didn't need to be precise and perfectly efficient to see progress.

This is the problem i have with Vipassana, a-la "Goenka style", having reacquainted myself recently via a few "1 day old student" sittings. the whole process seems deeply problematic intellectually (the infinite possibilities of division of "parts of the body") and ultimately just far more complex than what i would think valuable as an object of meditation, be that in pursuit of an awareness of "anicca" or otherwise ... (after all, if all conditioned things are impermanent, why single out anything specific for attention?) so thanks for this. it makes me feel a bit less concerned about my inability to get in touch with you, to have this particular discussion at least ... 🙂

Kalapas nimitta light etc never in the Sutta. Everything is from Abhidhamma. I don't know whether it can be practiced or not. For example in my 30 years practice never found Nimitta. If I imagthen I can see one. However your video is clear

The real value in practicing meditation is in observing yourself suffering. Not in learning how to relax.

There is no "direct knowledge" of past lives. Any so called memory of past lives is simply brain activity. Vipassana has nothing to do with past lives.

Timing meditation can be useful for shorter practices as a beginner. Let's say your teacher has recommded 10 mins twice a day. If it's going well you might be tempted to sit for longer, and if it's difficult you might be tempted to give up sooner x x

Thank you for your video! I didn't know about you, KZbin suggested one of your video and it just happened to be the right subject for me at this moment. I experience fear yesterday while meditating. It's not the first time. It's when I feel the body sensation leave my consciousness, I get scared and stop the process. I know it's fear but each time, I open my eyes and stop whatever was happening. I hope next time, I can just stay there and not stop the process...

You can practice meditation as a religious or non-religious person as well. Buddha was a meditation teacher, he had no need for God or a metaphysical entity. His method is psychology and neurology based, and breaks down beliefs and illusions, and conceptual boundaries (vipassana meditation).
@humanointegral16 күн бұрын
That’s a great question and I respectfully disagree with the first answer you got. The answer probably depends on how you understand what God is, and what place you give it in your psyche. For me it is compatible, because the only way I can possibly understand God is as a synonym of existence or reality. It is the totality and it mediates everything. But if we talk about god as an entity with gender and personality, then definitely not compatible. Just my perspective. Buddhism is particularly non-dogmatic and centered on experience so feel free to explore

Nibbana is the lost of all the thoughts. We do get several thoughts and generating of thoughts cannot be stopped. But we should see that the thought that is generated is getting lost instantly after generating it. If we are able to see like that, that is Nibbana where there is no any suffering or sacrifice and further there is no any saddness as there is no any reincarnation.

Hello Beth! I really admire your work! I haven't been able to meditate consistently since I started about 5 years ago. A person I think you would be interested in and who shares your interest of the boundaries of mind and matter is Bernardo Kastrup, the wellknown physiscist and philosopher and founder of analytical Idealism. 🌿

How did they know in the Buddha's time 🙂I guess the whole point is asking when to stop is itself a defilement - caused by restlessness and worry / desire to know when you've done enough, desire to know how you're progressing etc.
