The truck was bought to pull 5th wheel campers up the highway all day long. The 4x4 waste more fuel, and have more components to fail. Plus in winter the 2wd goes through just as much as a 4x4 without getting stuck. There was no logical reason for us to buy a 4x4.

The horror! What a way to destroy what once was a great vehicle, and a true SUV (now they are just CUVs, what a shame). These were reliable beasts in their heyday and now you've just destroyed one of the few classic Explorers that are left. I'm sure the engine and tranny will thank you later, if they haven't already. Looks like the old girl was losing parts each time you stupidly went up and down the steep inclines. In my opinion, anybody that treats their vehicle like this doesn't deserve to drive. Josh McDonald LOL what a laugh, the truck never stopped running. We bought it as a $400 dollar mud truck, no matter what we did to it it just kept on running and doing everything we asked it to. Never had a better suv. But the thing was waaaay past the point of saving. The floors were rotted out of it, the rear brakes were done, brake lines were shot, etc, interior was trashed before we bought it, no carpets, no door panels, half the gauges didn't work, it had over 240,000 miles on it so it's not like we did it to a mint truck with 30,000 miles on it. That truck was beat to shit before we bought it. Too bad it was stolen before we were able to do what we wanted to it. The point of a beater is to have fun and that we did. Ford sold a million of them and a lot of them went through rougher treatment then that one.
