Murray was fine in light comedy and could dance a bit, but her overacting here makes the rest of the cast look like graduates of The Actors Studio. The location shots help, but overall the script is a mess at 70 minutes (the Prologue in France could have been cut, plus the whole idea of genetic influences). Monte Blue's intro (or his stunt double's) wrestling the bull is an example of bulldogging, a rodeo technique created around 1890 by Texan Bill Pickett. As an African-American with some Cherokee, he was not permitted to perform in many white rodeos unless he stressed his Native American heritage. However, he was otherwise very successful on the rodeo circuit and even appeared in two films.

Gladys Cooper was a photographic model from the age of 6, & she ended up very popular as a model. From 1890 until the outbreak of war in 1914 there was a craze for postcards with photos of actors & her photos were among the most sought after. She ended up pretty much becoming the Betty Grable of The Great War, the favorite pin-up girl of British soldiers across Europe. To see how stunningly gorgeous she was, do a search for a photo shoot of her with very long hair & holding some flowers, I think the shoot was from 1910 when she was 22. Many of the early 20th century postcard photos with her are accessible online as well. Thanks for the upload, appreciate it.

A really good drama starring Elisabeth Bergner 🌹with Conrad Veidt and Emil Jannings! Just last week I watched Elisabeth Bergner as Conrad Veidt’s daughter in the comedy Der Geiger von Florenz (1926) here on KZbin. I would like to see this film restored along with Der Reigen (1920) with Conrad Veidt and Asta Nielsen 🌹. Thank You for making this film available for us to watch! 😉

A great and funny film. The attempted suicide scene was shot over and over causing Asta great concern according to her autobiography. It was also very daring to show bare legs and undies back then. I suspect there are scenes cut or missing, among them, one where she is clad in black wearing very long boots looking like some babe anno 1970 when such attire was fashion. Fun fact: in Germany where she made the majority of her films, she was in 1933 invited to dinner with Hitler. He admired her very much saying that he could spend hours delivering a speech, but a single gesture from her would have everyone at her feet ( or understand that gesture without saying a single word). Asta replied"oh, you mean this gesture..", whereas she gave a nazi salute. Der Fuhrer was not amused. They also had a disagreeing views on jewish actors where she told him many of her friends were jews. Propaganda minister Goebbels actively tried to recruit her to do films of her choice for the German UFA, but she declined. By 1933 she had retired from all filmmaking. So sad she only made 4 films in Denmark. Despite the bad upload quality, it is nevertheless a treasure when one consider it is unattainable elsewhere. Thanks again.

What a collection of talent - would love for the rediscovery of the first two reels. Ivor Novello is almost always too pretty up against everyone else, and what an amazing talent. Good thing we can't hear him, though, what with his playing a Polish count with a Welsh accent. Ellen Terry of course was one of the major stage actresses of the 19th C - born in 1847, she first started acting as a child. You can see her in all her glory as Lady Macbeth in Sargent's magnificent portrait of her. Gladys Cooper was still acting in the 1960s and didn't die until 1971 - consider the theatrical history between those two Dames. Of course, C. Aubrey Smith is no slouch, and there's even von Sternberg in his first screen credit.

@@goranbjelkendal1701 It is not. To my knowledge all that is available is a bootleg DVD. Though I'm not sure of the quality of said DVD, it is almost certainly not a professional restoration. It is also not available in anything but DVD quality, no Blu-Ray or HD streaming available.

This is a nicely made early western from 1915. It’s stark and tragic, two qualities William S. Hart possessed as an actor. I really enjoyed it. For background music I used Ralph Vaughan Williams: Symphony No 3 "Pastoral" which can be found on KZbin and it worked rather well.
