Had the same problem. At 1:50 I didn't check "use fields" in the Basic tab for anyone else that might have this problem.

A bit late to the party but love this tutorial. Very thorough process break down and well explained. Echoing previous sentiments of gladness that I've come across you. Please do some more xparticles stuff if you're still jamming with it :)

Amazing thank you, how would I mirror this in Redshift? Redshift doesn't have mix materials, or at least not that I am aware of, how would I assign the materials to the vertex map in Redshift?

Amazing technique! It caused me so much time to figure out how to make a transition between two different materials in Octane. Most of the tutorials are talking about RedShift..

Hmm, off the top of my head it seems like it's your vertex map is inverted? Try and get the yellow where the red is and vice versa. Sometimes it gets buggy maybe with vertex maps too, so perhaps start over with a fresh scene. Finally.. this is from a few years ago, new Cinema has been updated a bunch.. perhaps it's a setting that has changed. Hope that helps!

Hey, thanks for this tutorial!! But I have a question...everything worked well when I rendered each frame in Live Viewer. However, the vertex map didn't work when rendered in the Picture Viewer. Have you met this problem?

The reason there's an offset of the strings/particles, is because of the particle radius. By default it's 3, in Emission settings/Basic Particle Data, try something like "0.1", if you want it really close to the object.
@levelbevel
@levelbevel 3 жыл бұрын
Yup, got it! I appreciate the note. Didn't think to do it that way before this tutorial, but since I made this I've been using the offset approach all the time. Always learning!!

From the emitter - Object tab - offset origin maybe by - 1 generates the particles right on the object/box instead of the extra box visible and collider.

This tutorial is awesome. You explained everything clearly. I subscribed. Can't wait for more videos :) I don't know if you could help me with this or maybe make a video about it if you find it interesting enough. I found this on Behance and I would like to know how to make something similar. I don't know how to begin. at first, I thought it was caustics but the material is only one the inside of the object so how does light travel through it if there is another material on the other side. www.behance.net/gallery/54768649/Greek-Graphic-Design-and-Illustration-Awards-2017

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it, please check out my recent xparticles one! New ones over the holidays! For your question: So not 100% sure, but here's my take. It is caustics, yes. The middle symmetry seems to be cause by a shape that is half of the exclamation and the shadow.caustic creates the rest of the shape. Another thing I noticed is that it is possible that the whole thing is like a coin, then it is tilted slightly into the surface, then rotated. Bit of an optical illusion, but it seems like it could be done with a single shape, tilt and mess with the light source/shadow. Hope that helps a little.

Hey thanks for making this! Beginner question... how do you get the red heatmap to show on your mesh? Mine just shows normal octane material imgur.com/a/qBjMg2A
@levelbevel
@levelbevel 4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, thanks for the question. To see the vertex map, you have to click on the object and then the vertex map tag to see it. If the object is in a subd and you have that selected you won't see it. LMK if that works!
