I am currently dealing with a very similar problem with my new Lotkey Lyre that is in the same shape with 19 strings. I have been playing Lyre for almost 4 years and I am stumped. I have no clue if it is the tension acting weird or what. Ive done all I know to do for tuning new strings. It breaks towards the end near the stopper.

Watch my video on changing a string if you haven’t already. I use a guitar end ball string on C6. I think that the string in the set is too thick and the wrong gauge for C6 but the thinner guitar string worked kzbin.info/www/bejne/g33Vlnypgbp4kJYsi=cpTB9qiSNnuCXAxU

Thanks for posting these. Where do you buy your strings? (You’re in Australia right? I assume because of the Kmart Ukulele…) I’m going to buy the 31 string harprika, and either a 16 or 24 string lyre soon. I’m assuming I’ll break strings as I tune them up so I’m already planning on keeping a few spares 😅
@mishkasharp19 күн бұрын
Yes I’m in Australia. I’ve bought lyre harp strings from eBay and little kalimba shop (search google) and I think the ones from little kalimba shop are better. It’s always good to have a spare set of strings especially for the higher notes and if you find some from the set keep breaking check out video on how I used a ball end guitar string. It’s also handy to keep wire cutters with your strings so that you aren’t looking for one when it’s time to change a string 😁

Hi! How does the string spacing feel for you on this lyre? With some other brands people say the strings are a little too close so there’s a lot of buzzing. Do you ever encounter that issue with this one?
@mishkasharpАй бұрын
To me the spacing feels ok and there is no buzzing. The spacing is close compared to some of the 16 stringers which might be challenging for those with bigger fingers.

I thought so. It was a sturdy little harp but my 2 issues were the levers and only 22 strings. My cross string is a Pakistani harp and it’s quite good. No levers to deal with and good sound ☺️

hello, thank you for your videos. After checking them all out, I can see that you went through a grueling process of finally having a fully tunned lyre without having torn strings. I don't know how may strings you had to go through. I just got my lyre, a very similar one to yours, 19 strings, and of course, A5 string just broke on me and I put the replacement one, but there's no way the string is able to endure such tension. So I'm pretty sure B5 and C6 have no hope, they will just break at G#. I was thinking of using guitar strings for these last 3 ones, but didn't know what caliber to use. It seems 0.10 works fine for C6 based on your video... What caliber do you think I should use for the A5 and B6? Should I use the string 3 and 2 of the guitar string pack, or should I buy three 0.10 caliber? I'm so lost with this topic.
@mishkasharp6 ай бұрын
Hi 👋🏻 in this video I did use a 0.10 ball end guitar string on C6. I did restring the whole lyre at the end of last year because I thought the strings were a bit dull from moisture and oils from my fingers. I believe the current string is a 0.09 ball end guitar string. I did order some strings from 0.08 to 0.10 to try if I need to but so far it’s been ok. I think the 0.10 would work for A5 and B5 could be either 0.10 or 0.09. I don’t know which number string out of a guitar pack it would be. Once I figured out a 0.10 works I just started ordering certain sizes and not a mixed pack. Hope that helps ☺️

@@mishkasharp Nicee thank you very much I did it very slowly and could manage to get a clear A5 and B5; I left C6 at G# im' too scared to tighten it further, it is so tense right now, I will try to give it some days and have some spare .10 guitar strings at hand. Thank you again for your guidance.
@mishkasharp5 ай бұрын
Good luck, and if the 0.10 doesn’t work on yours then try a smaller one. You’ll get there eventually it’s just frustrating

@@mishkasharp Hello friend, thank you for your tips. I bought a 19 string nylon set for allegedly harp, thinking they would be more elastic to resist high tensions. I went through the grueling process of removing all strings, removing all pegs, and filled all holes with glue and sawdust to prevent pegs sliding back after being tensioned (at least that issue is out of the way, the pegs have more pressure and stay put) Then I put all nylon strings which would uncoil themselves unless I tied a knot on them. This took 6 hours, and A5 still broke on me xDDD So of course there was zero hope for b5 and c6... I will try my hand with .10 steel string for C6 and use the remaining original strings, but I'm not sure what to do for A5 and B5. This is turning to be quite a chore really
@gasiliangames72856 ай бұрын
Hello, thank you for the video. I recently got my harp which is exactly the same model as yours, but I'm having a hard time with A5, I'm tunning it with an electronic tunner, but the tension is way too much to endure A5 and it just breaks at G#5, I'm trying to use the replacement but I'm sure it will break if I try it again. (which also might happen to B5 and C6). Question, do you have any tips not break them? And, do you think strings 1, 2 and 3 from an electric guitar can be good replacements for strings 1, 2 and 3 for your harp model?
@mishkasharp6 ай бұрын
Hi 👋🏻 I wrote an answer to one of your other comments so that will probably help more. In terms of how to stop strings breaking - tune very slowly eg be patient and give it a week or at least a few days and let the strings rest in between. I find that the strings in the replacement set are the wrong size for A5-C6 and I wrote an answer about sizes in your other comment. I don’t know if electric guitar strings will work. In my updated video I think they are ball end guitar strings mad of steel.

Finally, I found someone who uses guitar strings to change it. I wonder if there are any other brand that sounds similar. I can't find the Argentine brand here in Indonesia and I'm afraid that guitar strings will make it sound heavier. The silver strings of mine are getting rusted a lot. If you have any tips to prevent the strings from rust, that'd be very helpful ❤️
@mishkasharp7 ай бұрын
I keep my lyre harps in a fabric bag when not played so it protects them from the air, I don’t know if it stops the strings rusting though. It took about a year to go dull and I think it’s because of the moisture and oils on the fingers and there might not be a way to stop that from causing rust. As for the guitar string, any small gauge ball end string should work and it might take a bit of trial and error. 0.9 also works and doesn’t add any heaviness to the sound.

I adopted a rag doll 2 years ago, he was in the shelter with his brother both have health issues, so they weren't getting adopted. (I took both of them home). He is the love of my life, and really acts like a freaking dog ,more than a cat. The other cat is a red type cat, and he doesnt look very much like a Ragdoll, he look like a typical American shorthair and the personality is so different.
