We'll, I think your on the right path here, I personally have two two car garages, and only have 3 engines between them. A 289 and C4 trans, one 3 speed top loader, and two 8" full rear ends in one garage, and one 90' 302 H.O., and another 289, C4 trans, another 8" full rear and four 8" chunks various ratios, plus new, 9" full rear for my 65 F/B project to build yet. And I still have feelings of "inadequacy.... So I think your good here. Yer living our "Best life !!!!! We're all just trying to keep up the with the "Hornigs" of the world out there !!!! God bless brother...

No problem yet, when I was building my cars, I had about 35 engines in a one car garage, and built the cars in the back yard! The best part was I didn’t have an engine hoist, just a ramp pit, and muscle from a few friends+ a few cases! We got things done! The 426 in my 70 dodge 1 1/2 ton was a bit of a challenge!😂

The only difference changing the firing order is the cam! You can put a 289 cam in it have one firing order, or a HO /351 cam and have another! Why worry with all the casting #,

I have nothing but fords. And I rarely have problems with them. I laughed at the comment because there’s always someone that is so stuck in there ways that they think one manufacturer is better than another. When in reality none of it matters when you buy aftermarket parts that weren’t designed or manufactured by said company. Sure the block is ford but in my 95 bronco there isn’t a single piece of ford in or on it.

May be its a 302 from 1984 and certain year on cause the rear main seal and probably has a 351w camshaft that use the firing order like 302 HO

1980 block with an HO cam?

There is also an additional stamping on the front of the block that reads 2L30. From what I’ve read that’s the casting date stamping. (December 30th, 1982) was when it was casted? Learning here 351s are so much simpler lol 😂

After doing some more digging. This is what I found out for the 82 302 HO motors. (First found a casting date stamp for December 30th, 1982 located on the front of the block.) this is what I found out from one of the mustang forums on line. “Focus will be on the 5.0. H.O. motor. The 1982 H.O. 302 is a thin -wall casted block with a 4.00 X 3.00 bore and stroke ( ’79 used the non-thin walled heavy cast carry over block). In the late 1982 production cycle a revision to the blockwas made to change it to a one piece rear main seal , this also required aredesign of the crankshaft. Two types ofblocks have been used in the fox mustang non-roller short casting and rollertall casting block. The crank shaft wascast iron and the connecting rod where forged steel through 1993 in the fox mustang 5.0. . 1982 The 5.0. H.O. was introduced in the fox mustang Imbalance changed to 50oz. and a 34oz damper Cast aluminum pistons 351W flat tappet camshaft, duration 260* intake, 278*exhaust. Weigh just the block. Someone just built a 80s block with some 351 parts. Is the firing order 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 The block weight will tell you. The HO is lighter.

if it's a true HO you are missing the roller lifter spider, and it should have forged pistons.

Thanks for joining the adventure. It’s a learning process as well. I’m just some kid with adult money trying to figure things out and have fun. My goal for the channel is just to let people know you don’t need to be classically trained to get into cars. If I get one person who’s been hesitant, to jump in, and save a classic. I’ll feel like I’ve succeeded

What’s your plan for project Ivy? I to have a 67 it was a coupe but with all the work I’ve been doing I decided to convert it to fastback. It’s coming along but I don’t get much time on it working a 50+ hour a week job and keeping the wife happy working around the house. Good luck and look forward to you getting back on the mustang

The plan is to eventually modernize it with a 4 link and coil overs. Powered rack and pinion steering. But for now suspension will remain stock. Manual steering and disk brakes. It will stay a coupe. But I need to paint it. I plan on building another 408w and I have a T-5 five speed trans that will go in it.
