There's also stalwart shell and thorns, stalwart really buffs up thorns. it makes their radius longer and I think they do more damage? not sure

I actually loved the White Palace area the first time I played. It was a fun challenge. Later when I found out that you could skip the hardest part by breaking an invisible wall, I was pretty disappointed. :O

I rememberred one day when I was doing platforming, I equipped Deep Focus and Grubsong and have one spare charm notch left. I thought why not put on Spore Shroom to make the heal more glamorous. And that's how I discovered the Deep Focus + Spore Shroom combo.
