have you ever seen Amy Herzog's ultimate sweater book? it's basically just a collection of super basic sweaters in the most common constructions, and each one comes in a few different weights. her set-in sleeve construction sweater pattern was the first thing i thought of when you showed the striped sweater! you wouldn't find it in a ravelry hunt for DK weight and heavier since it's listed as a sport weight pattern there. the book also has it in a worsted weight and an aran weight, though. i learned about it in Ali Makes Everything's video about everything she's ever knit, where she used it to make an & Other Stories sweater dupe. downside is you can't buy the individual patterns!
@nadia_makes
@nadia_makes 3 күн бұрын
yeah I feel like either Rebecca Clow or Laura Penrose mentioned this before - definitely feels like it makes more sense to just have that one reference and have all your bases covered rather than keep looking for individual patterns! the tincanknits strangebrew is another that looks super useful, but I guess I just don't gravitate towards circular yokes as much! thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out 🙏

Glad the argyle word was so useful 😉Thank you for this video, super well made and full of inspiration. I want to recreate Dries Van Noten's "Jezebel" cardigan... have to collect the right yarns! And would love to make some Molly Goddard like pieces too. Also have some visions of items with duplicate stitch (not really dupes but this video is making me imagine going beyond putting it on a simple Nakedknit tee and exploring what interesting silhoette could carry the pictures.)

@nadia_makes 4 күн бұрын
hehe it totally was, thank you again!! ooh that dries is super stunning, immediately adding to pinterest ahaha. it looks like a tape kind yarn - I feel like the multicoloured bits would be hard to source? could you use something like a ribbon instead? I've been thinking of crocheting a bag out of satin ribbons recently! oh man my partner likes those ralph lauren bear jumpers and I've been promising to recreate one, but it pains me to knit a whole plain boring jumper just to duplicate stitch it... I think maybe I should just thrift one instead 🤷‍♀️ I don't think I could brave a nakedknit tee - looks like a lot of knitting!!
@sandydansy
@sandydansy 4 күн бұрын
@@nadia_makes Ribbon is maybe a good idea! I was looking at it again and wondering if I could cut strips of silk fabric but then I'd worry it would fray and look too ragged in the end. Thrifting your base seems like a really good idea. I have started a nakedknit tee in black and white stripes and I'm taking my time with it, just put in a little mindless stockinette once in a while -- usually I pick it up and get into 'lets at least change to the other color stripe before we put it down' (8 rows each), maybe end up doing 8 or 16 rows at a time. I think I want the product so much that I hope I won't forget about it forever. I also want a pure undyed cashmere one (if I have enough leftover colourmart cone after the cardi I'm making) so that one will lack even the stripe motivation but I hope putting in a progress marker I can trick/convince myself to keep going.
@nadia_makes
@nadia_makes 4 күн бұрын
omgg tell me about it - I am trying to drum up the motivation to continue on this fingering weight oslo and am trying to trick myself by putting it next to my laptop whilst I work, so that I will absent-mindedly put some rows in whilst in meetings.... can't wait to wear it in 2026 lol i loooooove the idea of duplicate stitch on stripes, that sounds so cute!! silk strips would be beautiful but yeah would definitely end up fraying - could you maybe serge the edges like this etsy listing? www.etsy.com/ie/listing/716872773/ I feel like the different coloured thread would end up bothering me.. depending on how close to the original you wanted, maybe even hand dyeing some cheap cotton twill tape? you're tempting me with that colourmart cashmere... I am on a self-imposed yarn ban and ignoring their sale emails 🙈🙈
@sandydansy
@sandydansy 4 күн бұрын
@@nadia_makes I have a serger I got aaaaages ago but I haven't used it... possibly ever...?! I really need to get over the wariness/fear that I don't want to thread it or that I don't like that it trims as it sews? Or fear that it's actually broken from my neglect. But yeah prob not quite what I picture for this cardi either... and also imagining processing time for two edges of all the yardage seems possibly too much. Twill tape appeals to me for sure. I don't think I need it precisely duped, I just need the gist/vibe in some way that looks good and not like a barf of craft supplies. Be careful of beginning the colourmart buying, you get credit back for your purchases and then you start rationalizing spend those bonuses... 🤪

@@nadia_makes I should probably stop spam chatting you today but I thought I'd share 'one weird trick' I found recently... I am using knitcompanion app for some of my projects (new habit so it's not universal) but I've been enjoying using the 2nd counter to set a target number of rows or repeats, and toggling the 1st counter as I work... it's weirdly motivating and satisfying to make the numbers come together.

i love how your sanna is turning out! how do you feel about folded edges? short rows seem like kind of a hard way to get a scalloped edge, and i wonder if it would be easier to do a folded picot edge. So Woolly has a good tutorial, both in written and video versions, depending how you prefer to learn. as far as i know, this kind of edge is USUALLY done in stockinette, but i can't see any reason you couldn't do it in ribbing.

mmm, this is good shout! I was hoping to do a larger scale scallop kind of like this one? vspconsignment.com/en-eu/products/simone-rocha-black-mohair-knit-floral-cut-out-cardigan-2-5174-167 And I think that would be harder to do with a foldover? I suppose I could bind off between the scallops then decrease, then bind off each scallop individually... and then sew up the little gaps? ugh I guess the obvious answer is that I need to swatch!! isn't that always the answer? 😅 you've given me loads to think about, thank you so much!!

Recently knit the Sweater no 15 with the DROPS cotton merino and I will say it grew A LOT. Hard to believe you have only been knitting for two years! Yours is a unique view of what to knit incorporating interesting fashion developments - so inspiring! I love everything you are doing! The Marni top is so cool. You might want to consider doing the back from the bottom up. The Shizen top you mentioned in an earlier podcast is a good example for this. The back is done in two parts. And it will be easier for you to do the next line and the shoulder sloping if you work from the bottom up.
@nadia_makes

such a kind comment, thank you so so much! you read my mind - I finished the back panel in the last week, I couldn't be bothered to mess with the shoulder sloping when I cast on so went bottom up! then did the sloping by casting off stitches progressively instead of short rows/decreases. it felt very intuitive! I can understand the attraction of seamed knitting now - having said that, I have yet to seam a single piece together yet... 😂
