If he would have had a different agent, this cat would have been bigger then rc Sproul and as well known as MacArthur in bookstores and pastors conferences as a chief educator. I'm grateful to KZbin that I got to learn important things from this guy that I already should have known as a pastor. I recommend this Roman roads stuff all the time and it changed many of my classes and sermons the last decade

I think it is important to understand the roman view of "king" and the very earliest era of rome's 6 kings..Cincinnatus was quintessentially roman as he refused to be "REX"- That is the telling i always heard.

Very true and reasonable. This is what Adventists and JW do not understand, with their ridiculous statements that Plato, 'who invented the notion of the immortal soul' (this is especially funny as if they never heard of Egyptians or Babylonians), 'created the ideas which contaminated the Church, therefore Plato is a servant of the Serpent!' In their ignorant hubris, JW and SDA really think that early church fathers were gullible simpletons who fell for pagan influence for no reason.

NO, they weren't real. The myths were used as tools to indoctrinate Greek citizens into believing the monarchs had the divine right to rule over Greece Which explains why many Greek rulers were venerated as gods during the Hellenistic period

yeah I knew that, there is a cool statue I've seen several times growing up and the irony of how our city got its name, its meaning and the reality of Cincinnati is almost face palm worthy. I remember from history class......the others probably not to be honest LOL I don't think they teach that on the IPADs

The Ancient Greeks did not worship in the way modern religions teach and everything varied from region to region of the Greek city states. In fact there were hundreds and thousands of Greek Gods that were symbolic of ideas as the Greeks were lovers of ideas and respect and love of nature. Each God represented something, the sun, sea etc.. There is a saying in Greek, that states that" as Greeks we speak to the gods standing." Worship is something else. Religions labeled these ancient practices of philosophical free thinkers as Pagans and Heathens. If you would have called an ancient Greek any of those names, he/she would have laughed at you. They would have simple described themselves as HELLENE. Christianity destroyed the beauty of what once was but I truly believe the presence and spirits of the ancient gods are very real in this universe.

It's almost like Western culture is being actively subverted, hollowed out to weaken it. In such a way are minority influences pushed and exalted. While minority views and ideas are of course worth considering, and in a way it's lamentable that many great unusual perspectives are often so overshadowed by the prevailing culture they are unfairly overlooked, cutting the head off of the prevailing culture is not the solution.

Christianity has its roots in ancient Eastern culture. Certainly, the Greco-Roman world was the milieu in which God the Logos became incarnate, but the Messiah spoken of by Moses and the Prophets-the fulfilment of all the promises through Abraham and his family-was and is a Jew. Of course, the generation of Christians after the apostles were the fathers, of whom were educated in the wisdom of the Greeks. They “plundered” the spoil of the pagans and put them to a better use: towards God’s service in building the true tabernacle, His church.

I'm starting to think we are also prisoners of the moment. What seems to us as a watershed moment, might not be that significant centuries after. I wonder, did Christian even believe in the "transcedental", in a way we think of that today. I think they believed in complete material reality of faith, divine revelation etc... Popular historian Tom Holland used to say, that entering a cathedral in the middle ages, was like to entering a nuclear reactor today. They believed in the radiant power of relics the same way we believe in radioactivity. The rituals they performed where the same as the complex "rituals" that engineers perform today. So I think in principal nothing has changed. We today, like them, are dealing with God's natural laws. We might be just better at understanding what they are.

Glad to hear your opinon on medieval literature and how enlightenment thinkers really influenced our view of that time. I guess every era looks as its immediate predecessor as "dark", while in fact it is its parent. And always looks as some far ear as a golden age, in this case the greco-roman culture.

From Isaiah 14 which is a 'proverb against the King of Babylon, the Church invents Lucifer. No where in that chapter does God say He created a being name Lucifer, it is the invention of man. Then the prince of Tyrus is accused of being God. He is a man and God mocks him for his arrogance and brings him down to the grave. Ezekiel 28. The king of Tyre is also referred to as a cherubim and this is the pagan thought on that claim..."Cultural and Historical Background: In ancient Near Eastern cultures, similar beings to the biblical cherubim were often depicted as composite creatures with features of humans, animals, and birds, symbolizing strength, wisdom, and divine protection" Then in Revelation 12 Satan is invented when it is Rome being talked about. No where in the Bible does God teach us about the creation of any of these men being a super duper fallen angel. "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" Many read into this passage as referring to a super devil creeping around on earth like a super god taking out Christians. But it is warning us of men who creep into the church telling lies and spoiling the Christian. I also think it may refer to men who creep into the church to seduce women away from Jesus Christ by sexual sin. I know of one man who attempted to do this but the people of the church discovered him as being a child rapist. They kicked him out but he claimed to be persecuted as he is a Mexican and "they didn't want a brown man" in the church. It's more likely they did not want the creep near their daughters.

I read the entire 25 chapters of Iliad about 1 year ago. And it was obvious that, in the people's mind, gods and goddesses manifest themselves in people with courage and with actions. The courage and actions and motivations did came out of oral transmission of myths, but the curages and actions and motivations, and adrenaline themselves are real physical things.

Hi Roman Roads Media, You might want to check out my book "Best Christian Art" by Peter Rogers = 1. masterpieces of painting in chronological order: ancient Greeks, OT, Romans, NT, JC birth, ministry years, passion, ressurrection, middle ages, chivalry, Dante, reformation, founders, Saints. 2. Christian music. 3. Christian literature. 4. Christian movies. etc. If you want, you could interview me. I work primarily as a neuroradiologist, but I'm a modern Aristotle, and make a you tube channel (Peter Rogers MD) that's mostly about nutrition and health. Best wishes.

Issdore is the opposite of what Adler, Buchanan and all were looking for, their point was to preserve the original texts - it's not as though his encyclopedic entries on plato and Aristotle, for example, were a thorough or nuanced examination of their work, adding something. In fact, his summaries served to allow the extinguishing of some original texts, the one work tending to replace a shelf full of originals. So - of the 54 books, you have the original plato and Aristotle and no isadore. They might have a small volume of his original pamphlets including "against the jews" (though even that is basically darker commentary on an augustinian theme) but I don't think you want to talk about that.

Hah (said with grief), shortly all curricular books in several states are going to be dumped and replaced with bibles and other works of fiction. We're doomed. Time to embrace the lost 21st century, and perhaps the habitability of our planet. Sorry this comment doesn't address the content of this video, but rather its title.
