Makes me realize just how respectable my old 81 camaro was back in 2002, running 12.30s @115-117mph with a NA 383 pump gas, 4 speed manual and 3.42 gears.. Thats pretty slow these days!

Stock Mustang is slower than a 1993 Prelude VTEC (0-60 6.3 seconds, 1/4 mile 14.9 seconds 98mph) and a 1994 Integra GS-R sedan (0-60 6.4 seconds 1/4 mile 14.9 97mph)!? I wonder how the Prelude and Integra would've compared on the same track on the same day. I think top speeds were similar with the Integra and/or Prelude around 138mph compared to the Mustang GT's 135mph. Prelude and Integra times were from Motor Week. I'm assuming they probably had better conditions that were cooler than Texas.

Why not use the 95 cobra instead of the gt.

@Kyle-c7i wrong, it was way under rated. I had a 94 cobra, and my buddy had a 94 z28 then a 96 z28. No matter how many times we raced, I would pull away every time. Another friend had the 95gt. Same story but worse. Cobra was more around 270-275
@Kyle-c7i3 күн бұрын
@@michaeltaylor8914 maybe you had a ringer Cobra coupe and your friends had convertible Z28s with the A4 and 2.73 rear gear, and maybe you’re a better driver than your friends. From 93-02 the f-bodies were the quicker car in every comparison test. Regardless, it wouldn’t have changed much of the outcome in this video. Car publications were often given whatever the manufacturer had available, and it’s possible their Cobra test car wasn’t available at the time.

Didn't Motor Trend Mag do an article about removing the ground effects and rear wing for 205mph? It was a supercharged 5.4L thinking back. With one of the earliest 6 speeds at the time.

Amazing how much aerodynamics matter at those speeds. Bad aero can easily cost you as much speed as loosing, lets say, 150hp would!

I miss the Good old days before Social Media and all the Instagram Heros.. This is a perfect example of what we had to work with back then.. Kid's today are soo spoiled n don't even know it.. Their starting off point is way higher than what we had.. They are starting off with a 400 wheel cars.. Where we were lucky to be able to buy a 200 wheel car.. I know they don't know any better but it always bothers me when they say shyt like 400 Wheel is slow. I see guys online saying 600/700 wheel is slow now.. When I was 16 the average daily only made like 120 to 140 HP.. I remember my buddy's 1988 GT and thinking God this thing is Nasty.. And it had 225 HP and 300 Torque.. Now people laugh at those numbers, but to us it was fast but more over fun.. And Oh yeah, You had to know how to drive a manual back then too especially if you wanted to be fast.. We had no DCT's or 10 speeds.. The auto's back then were so terrible they actually killed the power cars were making.. In an auto back then you lost almost half your power through the trans case, so you had to drive a manual.. Now it's hard to even find anyone who can move my car around at in a parking lot.. I took my car to get washed and I had to move it around for the guys there washing it.. It blows my mind..

GM has always been good at chassis development and the Gen 3 LT1/LT4 is slept on a lot because of the LS and Gen 5 LT1. Blows my mind that the stroker LT1 was so much faster and quicker than the boosted LT1.
