They see colourful stickers for Ukulele on amazon. Are they not the correct ones?

This video is six years old, so the shopping conditions have changed. If you see the colourful ones on Amazon for ukulele, there's a good chance that they are correct. Good luck with them, I hope they help.

Hi. I’m a beginner uke player. I’ve noticed that I can hear a different kind of buzzing on my uke. It’s much less pronounced. I hear it when finger picking, but not if I hold the uke facing me while holding down the string at the fret. Obviously, I’m not playing it that way. I was just curious if the sound I can hear is the same a listener hears. Should the sound be the same for me (no sound port) as for the listener? Why does it sound cleaner to the listener? Am I doing something wrong?
@MarksUkuleleTips6 ай бұрын
I'm having trouble understanding the specifics of your question. There shouldn't be any buzzing at all. There are a lot of technique issues that can cause buzzing, and beginners tend to pick up a few such issues along the way. Some quick things to try that might help are making sure that you're using the tip of your finger (not the pad). That you're not accidentally touching any other string by accident with your fingers. That you're not picking too hard when playing finger style. That you're not holding down the string far away from the fret wire. There are other possible issues, but those are some common culprits. You can also check if the buzz is there for listeners by just asking one of them if they can hear the buzzing sound when you play. It is sometimes an issue with the player's technique, and sometimes with the instrument (as shown in the video). Hopefully that helps to narrow things down or eliminate some possible causes.

Is it low g? Feels good on normal strings but idk, yours feels less ukulely lol. Perhaps its the original song in the back
@MarksUkuleleTips8 ай бұрын
This was played on a high-G uke, the modified white Enya Nova. The high-G uke does sound a bit funny when you play things like this that rely on the low end... Existing. So a low-G would sound better but the main part of this was on a High-G. The brown tenor uke was set up with a low-G.

Hey! Wondering if you can use an adapter to plug this into headphones to not disturb the household! Please answer if you can! :) great video!
@MarksUkuleleTips Жыл бұрын
There is no headphone jack. It is a somewhat quieter uke than normal, but not by much. If you turn the effects on, they don't actually make the uke much louder, they just change the sound of the instrument with a tiny transducer on the back. It's a tricky technology to explain. If you need the uke to be properly quiet, you might be interested in something like a Stick style ukulele, like a Risa Stick, and a Vox Amplug 2 (hey have headphone jacks) and the sticks are the quietest style of ukulele, they're barely audible acoustically.

Does one need long finger nails on the hand that plays? I was considering picking up a ukelele and learning to play it but I don't like having long nails :(
@MarksUkuleleTips Жыл бұрын
No, you don't need to have long fingernails. Some folks like having long fingernails with their strumming hand, but it's not essential at all. Get a uke, give it a try. They're great fun. 🙂This video is about having long fingernails on your fretting hand can hold you back a bit.

How do you change the strings, is it difficult? Thanks!😁
@MarksUkuleleTips Жыл бұрын
The bridge has a hole and a slot for each string. You tie the end of the string into a knot, put it in the hole, then run the string into the slot. The knot should prevent the string from slipping through the slot.
@susanspellman4888 Жыл бұрын
Thank you, it doesn't sound too difficult to change the strings. Do you know if a low G string could be put on this ukulele? I read somewhere that you couldn't because of carbon fiber body & the material of a low G string will eventually scratch the ukulele? Do you recommend the Nova U concert acoustic plus ukulele as a relatively easy & fun instrument to play? I'm a beginner player & I own an acoustic/electric Fender Dhani Harrison tenor that I love so I already own an amplifier. Are there any other acoustic/electric Enya ukeleles that you'd recommend? I know Enya makes solid wood ones that are way more expensive. I was attracted to the Nova U for the price and the acoustic plus feature, and it looks fun to play! Thanks again for any information! 😁
@MarksUkuleleTips Жыл бұрын
@@susanspellman4888 I have tried putting a low G on, but it caused some pretty ugly intonation issues, so for that reason I wouldn't recommend it. If you put a wound string on one of these normal Enya Novas, it will erode the plastic frets and ruin the uke. Hence them bringing out the Pro, which was basically launched to combat that issue. Its metal frets can withstand a wound string. Basically I wouldn't modify it unless you're a luthier or an experienced technician. Even then, it's probably better to aim for a Pro instead if you plan on doing any modifications. If you buy it and use it as is, then yes, it is a fun instrument. I use one in the music school that I teach in. The nicest Enya's do come with quite a steep price tag. In terms of electrification, there are 3 categories, 1) Acoustic 2) Semi-acoustic 3) Electric. The best electric ukuleles around are made by Fanner. They aren't cheap, but are extremely beloved by the electric ukulele community, as they are actually made to a high standard, unless basically every other manufacturer (including Flight). The world of semi-acoustics is huge, basically every company is making some kind of semi-acoustic uke. So it's mostly a matter of budget and preference. If you're just starting out in that world, then maybe take a look at Kala, Ohana, Snail, Pono, Millar etc. If you're a millionaire, you can look at the more aspirational brands such as Martin, aNueNue, Rebel, Coast, and if you're into Hawaiian ukes, all of the K brands, Kamaka, Kanile'a, Kiwaya, KoAloha. I tried to not list ones that I've had to do serious repairs on, though I have had to fix Kalas, Snails, Ohana's, Ponos 😂 So 🤷🏻♂ Almost every instrument can benefit with a setup by a luthier. Most instruments are set up pretty badly leaving the factory.

Thank you! You gave me a wealth of information! 🙌🏼 I ordered a Nov U concert with the effects earlier today in red, I really wanted orange but it was out of stock, and I'm going to leave the high G string on it as you recommended. My Fender has a low G string. I frequent a local music store so if there's any issues with the set-up I'll go to that shop. I can't wait to play it and I know between my Fender & the Enya, I'll be having hours of fun strumming along! 😁
@MarksUkuleleTips Жыл бұрын
@@susanspellman4888 No problem. I hope you have fun with it when it arrives. If you have both a low G and a high G, you should be covered for playing most things on uke. Best of luck with it.

For your fretting hand, if you have long nail beds (as do many people who don't bite their nails), you will have to file your nails past the nail bed. This is uncomfortable, because there are lots of nerve endings there. As you're filing, file at an angle so the part of the nail closest to the nail bed gets filed away last. To reduce discomfort, gently pull the nail bed away from the nail as much as possible so that the file does not come into contact with it. Within a couple of weeks the nail bed will shrink to fit the shorter nail so that it's possible to play without pain.

Mark, watched quite a few reviews on this instrument but this is the first one where somebody dives into the thing 🤓 Interesting! I am wondering how fragile the whole effects-unit is. Like, if you use this instrument for an outdoor banger … would that speak against it?
@MarksUkuleleTips2 жыл бұрын
There's only one way to find out really. I wouldn't imagine it's water-proof, if that's what you're thinking. It's also probably a bit quieter than you'd imagine. Like it's not an amplifier per se, it's more like it takes the existing acoustic sound and modifies it to add the effects to it. It's basically an acoustic sound, plus reverb or relay or chorus.
