This is wonderful! I am an ECE Policy Fellow and on the Teach Plus National Policy Advisory Board and advocating for play-based learning. Are there opportunities for those not working in Chicago Public Schools to participate in Project Connect? This PD would be such an asset for all early childhood educators, including those working in home-based, centers, nfp, private, and public programs. Thanks for the great information! Hoping to hear from you soon!

Masking kids all day is child abuse. You are all unfit to be teachers and feel bad for all the kids that have to go through this nonsense.

This is wonderful! Dr. Maria Montessori taught a version of mindfulness in her "Silence Game" with 3 to six year olds in the early 1900's . It ' s been a long time in coming to traditional public schools ,especially on a level such as this. This practice helps the body/brain in multiple ways.One bit of research today shows how practicing these techniques has a calming effect ." Mindfulness "changes neurological pathways in the brain . It's exciting to be living in a time where scientific discoveries validate the Ancient Eastern Cultural Practices by using technology to document what takes place in the brain/body.

The proper way to drill students is through exercises that have them discover generalizable patterns. Six months of drilling should not be plain memorization and speed building. The process of finding patterns is its own mnemonic. Singapore Mathematics, from what I tell so far, promotes just this sort of growth.
@starponys074012 жыл бұрын
This is what you call proper "investigative" approaches: Giving the environment that allows students to discover all sorts of patterns in numbers - and only then calling for any rote memorization. Have the intellectual foundation down and the rote memorization will follow. The problem with much of "reform math" is that it keeps students arrested in child-like contemplation - rather than letting them grow in the way Singapore mathematics apparently allows.

lol. His English is funny but i dont think all singaporeans speak like that :P If you listen carefully to Singlish speakers, his accent sounds way off. He sounds Thai or Malaysian to be honest

Singapore is great, I teach Singapore maths here in London at one of the best all boys school in the UK, and for the last 5yrs, the boys are becoming very competent, expresive, and get a hold of topics so much easier and faster than those students who have not. Students are at least 2 yrs ahead of their counterparts. We are now seeing the fruits of our labour, with our boys overtaking those a year ahead of them, because they have learnt Singapore maths only since year 3.

@3mm1tt13 жыл бұрын
Good grief...who cares about his English?! The philosophies he shares about math and young learners are so important! It's about time math instructors listen and change their practice. Teaching for meaning and understanding before moving children to rote learning of math facts and rules is critical!

You know what's scarier than bad English? Thinking that bad English is actually not bad English but just good English with a different accent.
@tropicalpassion1313 жыл бұрын
@tanjyeyee um, its just a Singlish accent. many singaporeans speak in slang :P its not that his english is bad

@tanjyeyee I massively disagree. He just doesn't speak with a western accent. He speaks grammatically with good vocabulary. i.e 'static', 'independently', 'prevalent'.
