I have two options because I will buy a Yamaha desert bike. There is a regular valve and there is a titanium valve. Which is better, more durable and more practical?
@FerreaRacingComponentsАй бұрын
Your best option is stainless steel for longevity.

To reduce mass rotation inertia and valve train reciprocating weight, will a full titanium valve-train system benefit longevity for a 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel?
@C6Z_Bob7 ай бұрын
No. Titanium valves are for high RPM, no benefit on a low RPM engine like a diesel.
@FatBoy7.3Powerstroke7 ай бұрын
@@C6Z_Bob I understand that it may be more beneficial for higher rpm applications but it will transfer heat better and even though it’s a small amount of weight (40% less than OEM components) it will benefit at a steady rpm range while towing, the 2100-2250 range. Less mass inertia weight is a benefit even though it’s a small amount.

I’m looking to have a set of custom cut titanium valves for a 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel. Aiming for but not 100% on head diameter size but am certain to have 45 degree cut valve angles. Specs are as follows: Intake Valves - Head Diameter 1.875”, Stem Diameter .3122”, Length 5.805” Valve Angle 45 degrees, Stem Type 1 Grove. Exhaust Valves - Head Diameter 1.875”, Stem Diameter .3122”, Length 5.799”, Valve Angle 45 degrees, Stem Type 1 Grove. 16 Valves total 8 IN, 8 EX. Other than Head Diameter and Seat Angle, Stock Ford specs are what I am referencing. Can you please leave me a ball park estimate in a reply?

@RegularTy Жыл бұрын
Awesome video, thanks! While rebuilding my dirt bike engine, i lapped all 4 valves, then read later to not lap the intake valves because they are titanium valves with some kind of coating. Whoops, too late. Any recommendations on a good path forward?

What did you end up doing??
@RegularTy10 ай бұрын
I ended up taking it to a shop with a former race mechanic. Turns out that a previous owner had replaced the stock titanium valves with stainless steel valves. I had him re-cut the valve seats, got new valve stems and off I went. @@Factory928AC

Can these coatings be applied conventional steel & stainless steel valves?
@FerreaRacingComponents Жыл бұрын
We do not recommend using this coating on stainless steel valves. Titanium valves show the best wear resistance due to its good adhesion.
@jessebunker6062 Жыл бұрын
Can they be used with powered metal valve guides, or do the valve guides have to be replaced. Don't want to get into another LS7 debacle.
@FerreaRacingComponents Жыл бұрын
Hi Jesse, they can be used with any type of guide material. We recommend if possible using a bronze guide. This will allow for less wear and better heat dissipation.

What grade of titanium is used in valves? I know there are three grades. One is commercial grade, the second is a Harden grade and the third is aircraft grade or NASA grade.

If they are pitted then they need machining.

Getting rid of the lift function. Thats what makes these motors so good. The duality of them. The switchover. The sound of the overlap when the high cams come on. Might as well just get a 1zz and cam it to the point where it wont idle.

If you say the sweep pattern is correct then that tells you the valve isn't rotating it's in one position. Show us that sweep pattern on a rotating valve it would look more like the first valve highlighted
@mikeforce17765 күн бұрын
.040 to .060 sweep and Wearever the sweep is on the tip is better than .070 or more deed center on the tip, BBC is a good example, you can have over.300 differences in length of valves, impossible to have all those have dead center sweep.

With the dual springs, do we have to locate the inner spring with a locater and rely on the inner spring locating ability the outer spring or locate the inner spring with a locator and locate the outer spring by a cup type locator at the same time ? And if inner spring snugly fit to its locator, what kind of clearance should be there between the inner spring’s OD to outer spring’s ID ?

@jeremysmith78983 жыл бұрын
"If your running ti valves you have to do much more maintenance than SS" I'm trying to find out how titanium wears more than SS. Titanium is 2x as resistant to heat and much lighter than SS. Because Ti weighs less than SS it takes stress off of the whole valve train. If you were to get hit in the head ( cylinder head) with a bat which would you chose a Ti or SS bat? The lighter valve produces less wear on the valve seat and the entire valve train. WHen accounting for heat Ti has better strength properties than SS. ANyone who has cut titanium on a mill know that ti does not start chipping off when under heat like SS does./
