I've clicker trained my parrots. I think I still have 2 clickers. We do training at least once a day, more than once if she is showing 'bored behaviors and dog park once a week. Dog park helps with socialization....can't find a park with a water feature though. We have a few streams, and she ignored the rain yesterday.

You make that look easy....with a bigger foot and the commentary, it will only make my eskie feet better. And, 4 more feet to practice on soon...

Is the reason you trim the feet just for cosmetics? I trim toe nails.

No! the feet need to be trimmed to keep from having mats, dirt balls and Ice balls in the feet. Also if the dog walks on a slippery surface if there is hair covering the pad it will slip. The pad gives the traction, so long as it makes contact with the floor.

Looks great. You said you don't like to cut too much off at one point is there a reason why? Should boarder collie owners be careful about how much to trim?

If you want to show the dog it's important not to take off too much hair. They are to be trimmed to be neat, but no excessive trimming. As far as working goes, they need some hair for protection as well. If you are just trimming for home, sanitary reasons, it's not important if you have a choppy looking trim, but I do like a pretty foot. They are so adorable! The hair on the back of the leg does give some protection to the skin from them skidding in the grass when they make their fast turns and downs.

Beautiful job. My Harley would run for cover if I even tried to approach him with a pair of scissors let alone with nail clipper.🤣

Can't let them see them ahead of time! If very sensitive to actually have them done, take your time, do a little and treat lots. Then do a little the next day. I can't let them see the equipment ahead or they run. Like trying to get a toddler in the tub!

Sorry, my child has allergies and even on medication it's sometimes difficult for her. I do these videos to help friends and others that have requested them. I'm working on getting better at the video's and have a tripod now. Thanks for the feedback.

do dogs like being trimmed and groomed
@mondenkindkennels3864
@mondenkindkennels3864 2 жыл бұрын
Some do, some don't. Some people love to go to the spa, others not so much. Either way it is necessary to make sure your dog is healthy. Hair long on the pads can cause painful matts, ice and mud can get stuck in there, and they are more likely to slip on smooth surfaces and get injured. Grooming your dog is a great time to bond with them and check for injuries or parasites.

HES SO NICE AND GENTLE TO YOU
@mondenkindkennels3864
@mondenkindkennels3864 4 ай бұрын
I bred and trained him myself. I am always gentle but firm. Being consistent in expectations and being sure to listen to what the dog has to tell you (are they being dramatic or are they really uncomfortable) and adjusting to what is appropriate is very important. Lots of reward for good behavior.

Does over growth of hair between pads cause pain? We are in mountains & river often & does that hair protect pads?
@mondenkindkennels3864
@mondenkindkennels3864 2 жыл бұрын
The long hair can pick up burs or hide a thorn stuck in the pad. So keeping it trimmed and checking the feet often is best. The hair could help add protection if walking on a hot surface. If on a smooth surface, it will cause them to slip.

It takes time. Do a little at a time, not a whole session at once until the dog is comfortable. Give breaks and lots of rewards!
