Wow! The '74 Dolphins were a bunch of whiny babies. I never realized how bad it was. They needed to be humbled a bit. After 3 straight Super Bowl appearances they all developed a sense that the rest of the League owed them something. The grass was too wet. We lost some players to injury. We scored too early and left too much time on the clock! Stabler was lucky to get rid of an end over end desperation pass. Blah! Blah! Blah! It's called Home Field Advantage. You went to Oakland because they had the better record that year. So, it wasn't just THIS day. Other things happened throughout the season that kept the Dolphins from hosting this game at the Orange Bowl. So, it's really beneath the 2-time defending champions to complain about having to play their next man up or a wet field. And the Raiders were without their future Hall of Fame cornerback, "Old Man Willie" Brown # 24 and had 31 year old Nemiah Wilson, who would only play in 7 more games in his career, trying to cover Paul Warfield. So what? To his credit, on camera at least, Shula was gracious in defeat. But Csonka, Griese and others were less than gracious. The Raiders earned this one after coming up short prior to this match up. On a positive note for the Dolphins, it was nice to see Manny Fernandez unload on that obnoxious fan. he. he. I'm surprise the fan wasn't out cold after that forearm shiver to the noggin.

I love hearing Bill King on this broadcast. I listened to him do Raiders, A's, and Warriors games...one of the greats!

With Csonka, Kiick and Warfield, the 1975-1979 seasons might have been a rabid dogfight. Even without them, Miami was 10-4 in 1975 and 1977, and a playoff team in 1978 and 1979, so one would think three more Pro Bowlers would have made them competive with the Steelers, then with Denver during the Broncomania season.

Even as a Cowboy fan, the 1970's Raiders are baked into my DNA as something special following the NFL in the 1970's. Will cheer for the Las Vegas Raiders to lose every game until the end of time, as long as they are owned by that salivating goober with the spaghetti bowl haircut.

Love this, but they failed to bring up the turning point of the finals. Pens up 1 in game 4 with 7 minutes to go and Troy Loney takes a major high sticking penalty. The power play was the North Stars bread and butter all playoffs. The Penguins not only killed off the 5 minute major, but they didn’t allow Minnesota to even get a shot on goal. Penguins never looked back after that.

In regard to the Dolphins winning a third straight SB, I have no reason to believe they would have done any better against the Steelers, who decisively beat Oakland on the Raiders' home field. Where would the game have been played if it happened?
@filthyswit
@filthyswit 13 күн бұрын
It would have been played in Miami. Most likely the Dolphins win because they were in the middle of their record 27 straight home wins. Pittsburg may have been a slightly better team, but the better team doesn't always win.

Some of the most memorable NFL games happened with an ominous gray sky adding to the drama, Dallas and Pittsburgh in SB XIII, Oakland and San Diego in 1980, Colts/Jets SB III.

This used to be a great team (Raiders) that was an integral part of the community. The Raiders were Oakland. Oakland was the Raiders as they said. Now its just another soulless corporate cash grab. Embarrassing to see their stadium invaded by Chiefs, Broncos, Steelers, and 49ers fans. No home field advantage anymore. What a disgrace.

The game took place on my 14th birthday. I've seen the catch, the drive, Kellen Winslow's heroics, Big Ben beating the Cardinals, etc, etc, etc, the "Sea of Hands" game was probabaly the best of them all! What I also remember is that I was a huge Steelers fan and their dynasty was born on that very same field. Stabler, Bilitnekoff, Cliff Branch, Villapiano, Upshaw, Atkinson, and all of them. They were the ultimate rivals to my Steelers. I knew all of the Raiders because I respected them. Otis Taylor only had one foot inbounds on 3rd down in the final showdown, but Franco caught the ball... Raiders Fans know what I'm talking about!!!

Imagine the Dolphins losing Super Bowl 6 to the Cowboys in January of 1972 by a score of 24-3 & then being so disciplined that they went 17-0 & 15-2 including 2 Super Bowls. Don Shula was a great coach.

I haven't watched modern football since it became political. All I watch is older games on KZbin. The action is better , the commentators are better etc. These modern QB's would have never made it back when you could really hit a QB!

Cliff Branch will just blow by em'! Proceeds being covered well but catches an underthrown ball that was caught because the coverage actually outran him. History never tells the story right! On the comment of Shula scoring too quickly; it's ignorant! Yepremian had a 65.6% career FG success rate and only 60% in the playoffs at that point in his career in '74. Who is to say that he would even make an attempt?

The corner fell down on that play.For the same reason the receiver fell down for the dolphins was because the field conditions were very poor they were as poor for the raiders as they were the dolphins. I noticed something in the narration of this. What? I would consider the greatest game of all times the narrating. When the dolphins slip is because of the field conditions when the raiders go down, they just fell down, that's b. S and everybody knows it.

Wow! I have been a dolphins fan since 1970 I was 14 when I saw this game I forgot about all of those key injuries we had and we still nearly won this game the greatest team in NFL history over 3 or 4 years🎉 the Miami Dolphins!! Without that injury to Jake Scott Mercury Morris Manny Fernandez playing half dead and Larry zonka hurting we probably would have blown the Raiders out again but it's just past history a lot of what ifs. many props to the Raiders

Total pass interference on the easy touchdown to Warfield in the first quarter. Csonka was playing hurt and Mercury Morris was out for the season with a torn knee. I doubt the Raiders or the Steelers could have beat the dolphins at full roster strength.

Davis' TD gave me the psychological release of "Eat it Miami and Don Shula!" after watching Anderson bragging that they could have beaten the Vikings ten times out of ten (they barely beat Minnesota in 1972) and Kuechenberg smugly bragging about dominating Alan Page. Miami were a worthy dynasty, but it became tiresome seeing them dominate so much, so dominant they projected arrogance. The same way the rest of the NFL and its fans must have felt relief when Pittsburgh got toppled from its perch in 1980 (not even making the playoffs) and Dallas was in 1996 losing in the post season to the expansion Panthers. When one thinks of the famous photo of a bleeding Y.A.Tittle in 1964, it wouldn't surprise me if much of the league was smiling at the decline of the Giants after so many years of glamor and publicity bestowed on that New York team. Wasn't it odd that Miami could still have a pair of 10-4 seasons and make the playoffs neither time, getting edged out of the wild card by Cincinnati (1975) and Oakland (1977)?
