As a Union Construction Laborer I spent a fair amount of time with our Union Pile Drivers. They were from the Chicago local. I worked In support roles as a Laborer and at times as Chief Gofer, in charge of things gone wrong. Spent too much time near the hammer logging in the blow count for bearing. One Engineer asked me why he should trust my recordings, my integrity. I told him he didn't have to do so, he could stand near me or do it his self. He took one look at me being covered in diesel and grease from the hammer and then decided I was an honest guy! H Pile, old single stage diesel hammers are messy to say the least. Vibratory is neater when you can do it that way. Was a good living.

I don't know what they're driving piles for but the piles are all crooked and whats with the showing off for, that's for teenagers. I wouldn't hire them.

The big guy with the safety fall harness is wearing to much stuff. Safety harness, Orange vest, safety glasses , hard hat (which is sensible and appropriate) But the spud wrench? A 28 oz Estwing hammer ( should get paid extra for that) and those funny looking type of work boots kind of give the appearance of some kind of an ironworker. . I think he's a real piledriver, unless he's wearing pantyhose under those carhartts and tucking his pant legs into his boot, then we'll know for sure .

Do the leads have a winch built in to hoist the pile? Or is that all done with the crane winches?

Nice of you to show Oracle Park so I could find this location on Google Maps, the satellite image is from shortly before this video but you can clearly see the cranes driving piles!

I started my apprenticeship in Boston pile driving 2 weeks ago and have driven 14 piles at my first job (4 days long) and now 36/140 in 5 days at my second job. All H piles. I'm with the same company still and learning allot but mostly from watching and occasionally the foreman will explain something to me but it's tough to hear 😂 Tough to figure things out at first but starting to get into the groove of things this is a cool video

Always cool to see other methods. Pile driver from Wisco. We just use free standing leads. And the company only like changing the rubbers when they look like we chewed on them instead of working. Love the videos.
