Is this fabric soft like a chenille etc. and is it dog friendly fabric as far as tearing?

For that, check out the newly added "Jay" fabric from this same line. It is very much like a chenille and is super soft. As far as durability, it is some of the toughest stuff you can find and should be great with dogs.

This is going to sound kind of stupid, but I'm going to ask anyway. If it's impermeable how does the foam and down filling inside the furniture "breath?" For example, when you sit down on a sofa and the air in the cushions sort of squishes out? Or when you "fluff" the back cushions go make them fuller?

The underlayer is actually microperforated so that, while liquids cannot pass through it, air molecules can. So it will breathe naturally.

It depends on the twill line, but in general it will massively outperform it.
