Good video! Great things to think about, especially about fortifying our homes. I had a funny experience with window alarms. I wanted to fortify my home so I put alarms on my windows and doors. Soon after the alarms started going off. Since I am older and live alone I became anxious because of this. I turned off the alarm and reset it. A few hours later it happened again. I figured out that it happened whenever a train went by. It caused vibration and that caused the alarms to go off.

KEEP your plastic Bottles on hand after you've drank the water in them. With purification and filtering, you can refill & reuse those bottles. I know this sounds obvious, but I have SEEN people throw those bottles away after use.

KEEPING WARM DURING THE MIDDLE AGE WINTERS River stones were placed in the fire 🔥 now the stone needs to be solid as granite. 😱 Porous stones will contain water and EXPLODE in a fire, which can be very HAZARDOUS. The hot stone would be wrapped in cotton clothing (Definitely NOT nylon nor poliester!!) and kept at the bottom of the feet throughout the night. Ingenious alright.❤😊

🏕 Homeless when snowing and freezing. Camping. A couple of wooden pallets as a base. ❄⛄❄☃️❄ A piece of carpet. Set up tent over said carpet. Placing flat cardboard on the floor provides inside insulation. Place a blanket over the tent, than a large tarp. Now you have a reasonably warmer tent, as compared to the great outdoors.

🥣 KETCHUP SOUP a recipe from the GREAT DEPRESSION, and not quite forgotten yet, although rarely mentioned. Procure a disposable cup, plastc spoon, free packets of Ketchup, salt, pepper, some add sugar. Empty desired amount into the cup, add hot water, stir, enjoy. Maybe even a little packet of crackers... Better than nothing at all.

Disaster for me was being served divorce papers at work and under threat of arrest not being able to return to my home. I had no backup plan whatsoever, last of January with freezing rain conditions. I got thru it, but it was hard. Today years later, I keep a x large waterproof ammo box full of survival supplies hidden on my remote property. Extra clothing, knife ,fire making kit, food, water, money, tarp, ammo, ect. To this day I check this box and refresh the contents twice a year.

Your smart with common scense, I got the hell out of the city found where land had no building permits and back then cheap land and a lake close by, I did this after I became homeless with 2 babies under the age of 6, once I got back on my feet I made sure to work 2 jobs so if I lost 1 we were ok till I got another second job, 2007 found my land and paid it off, then changed my career from accounting to trucker, lived in my semi for a year to get my land cleared and home put on land paid it off in Dec 2021 b4 I paid it all off every year I built something, porches, barn, garage, chicken coup and run, above garden beds so when I had it paid off I jumped right in learning gardening, raising layers and meat chickens, gardening is a real learning curve, chickens are easy.

I am a man, I will be turning 60 this March. For some time now, my hobby has been bushcrafting, or even “survival in extreme conditions”. I am good at setting traps, building shelters, making stone tools, etc. I follow a raw carnivore diet, meaning I almost always eat meat and offal raw (for example, raw liver because it is a “natural multivitamin”, and I drink fresh blood whenever I can, because it is a “natural energy drink”). My self-image is that I am a “modern caveman”. I am already preparing to live off-grid in a few years, without electricity, far from civilization. I also eat insects, mostly raw, and I ready to swallow live earthworms without blinking an eye if there is nothing better than that, I have done it more than once, many times. I am definitely not going to starve to death easily! I am preparing myself this way because I am deeply convinced that the current technical civilization will indeed collapse, and not in the far future at all, for sure sooner than 20 years, but maybe in less than 5 years, if the Gulf Stream stops, and it is slowing down... I live an extremely minimalist life, I barely have more stuff than can fit in 3 backpacks, but that is enough for me. I currently live on only 14 square meters, including the bathroom, but I consider this an incredible luxury... To be honest, I could not sympathize with the sad, crying homeless people in the video who were begging! Okay, I feel sorry for them, but that would not be typical of me. I would find it shameful, humiliating! I am a “sigma” personality type. I do not want to be a leader, although if I really had to, I would take on the burden of leading a group, but only out of a sense of duty. But I do not desire it. However, everyone had better to leave me alone, because even though I also can be defeated, it could cost the attacker a very lot... I don't believe that I should survive by begging for alms. I believe in my own abilities! And I wouldn't stay in the city in the event of a SHTF. The whole concept is stupid. In the event of a SHTF, there will be no electricity, and without electricity, a city will be an uninhabitable, hot concrete desert covered in epidemic-spreading filth from the sewage system. Then I will retreat to some place that is as uncivilized as possible. If something like this happens, I will not experience it as a tragedy, but as an interesting challenge, and even a great, albeit undoubtedly risky, OPPORTUNITY! A historical turning point that opens the way for me to capitalize on, exploit, and show off my previously hidden or barely-used abilities! For me to cry and whine?! RIDICULOUS! Impossible and no possible! That I should put up a sign saying "Help" and "I'm hungry!"?! Never! Never ever! I'd rather dig up the ground for worms, but I have many other ideas too... I'm deeply convinced that if such a SHTF event happens, I could take care of not only myself, thanks to my knowledge, but also one or two other people, worthy of it, provided of course that they obey me without the slightest word or any other signs of resistance and debate. If they don't obey, I won't force my will on them, it's their business, let them do it themselves, I won't waste time arguing, I'll shrug my shoulders and leave them alone... I've already written that I don't even aspire to a leadership role, but IF THEY ASK ME NICELY, I MAYBE I'll take it. But I won't fight for it... But it would be worth listening to me, because I'm a professional survivor, this has been my hobby for a while... And by the way, I follow the Stoic philosophy, meaning that no matter what happens, it will still be GOOD, because there is something good in every bad, and anyway, there will be variety, which provides an opportunity to learn something new...

@@heidimisfeldt5685 Man is also an animal (hm, he has proven this enough times...), and just think about it, Nature has not given any animal the science of heat treatment of food! They ALL eat their prey raw, without exception! Heat treatment also destroys a significant percentage of vitamins. In addition, heat denatures protein, and the name DE-NATURE refers to the fact that it makes protein UNNATURAL! What is and is not disgusting is a matter of taste and habit. Even the Latins said that “De gustibus non est disputandum”, which roughly means that tastes are not worth arguing about. Muslims, for example, consider pork to be disgusting, many of them would rather starve than eat it. The Chinese eat a lot of insects (so do I, although I am not Chinese), but this is not so common in the USA. Eskimos also eat mostly raw fish and raw seal meat and fat, and they don't mind it at all. The Japanese also eat a lot of raw shellfish. The French consider snails a delicacy, the Italians happily eat cats, and in Vietnam, dog meat is considered a delicacy (they're right, it's very delicious, I can tell you from experience). So there's no point in arguing about this. If you don't want to eat this or that, raw or otherwise, then don't eat it, I don't care, at most you'll starve to death during and after a SHTF event. If that's the case, I won't feel sorry for you, you have to do it that way, those who are too picky won't survive, that's for sure, but that's okay because at least you won't pass on your faulty genes to the next generation! That's how evolution works! As I wrote, I don't want to force my views on anyone. I'll tell you what I think, whoever wants to accept it, whoever doesn't, it doesn't bother me, I'm a sigma, I'll continue on my path... But just to scare you, I'll list a few weird foods I've eaten: -raw fish guts; raw rat and mouse; mole cricket (also raw), May beetle, wasp larvae, mealworms, superworms, cockroaches, madagascarian giant hissing cocroaches, turtles, snakes, sparrows, octopuses, and many, many others! All raw. I say, it's just a matter of getting used to it. Oh, and in closing, I'll note that eating earthworms is very healthy, because they are full of lots of minerals, as well as the richest storehouse of essential amino acids, more than even marine organisms! By the way, I have my own earthworm farm in a corner of the bathroom, so that I always have an ample supply of this valuable food source, and in order to be sure that is certainly not spoiled by chemical contaminants. But I'm telling you, if you don't want to eat healthy, then don't do it, I'm not forcing my will on you, it's your business, I assume you're an adult, therefore is responsible for your decisions...

Beneficial information indeed. Thank you. The incoming world administration will soon see that no one is homeless, hunger, or unloved. Christ Jesus gave samples or forgleams of what he is about to do on a worldwide scale, when he feed the hungry, cured the sick and deformed, controlled extreme weather, comforted the discouraged, and even raised dead loved ones. However, before his Kingdom takes over earth's affairs, we will experience the greatest time of trouble this world has ever seen or will ever see again. Infact, Jesus foretold that if those terrible days were not cut short, no one would survive. Matthew 24:21,22

I kid around with my friends that I could live in my car. I have a 2013 CRV and I think my twin mattress might fit in it. With the back seats down flat. I have two go bags in my car. One has food and water, including cat food for my cat. The other has emergency blankets, radio, etc. I haven’t planned that part out yet but there is that and why I’m trying so hard to hang on to my car. In my apartment I have set up an emergency pantry that I am in the process of stocking. Every month I add can foods, etc. I also bought a dehydrator so I soak, cook and dehydrate beans and lentils almost everyday. If we lose power then I have a power bank that I can use to boil water to hydrate my food. And charge my phone. I have gone from keeping a well stocked freezer to learning to dehydrate food where power is not necessary. Now my freezer only contains things that will get used up fairly quickly. It’s a challenge but it’s fun too.

The show said to use a led light that has a 1000 lumens - thats an enormus amount of light for an emergency - thats equal to a 90 to 100 watt incandescent light - Even if it doesnt use much power - my guess is 10 or 12 watts - if your relying on a battery operated device thats a lot of power - When the power is out a 15 watt equivalent led light uses 1.5 watts it generates around 100 lumens or more - Thats enough light to see your way around at night - a kerosene flat wick lamp puts out about 60 lumens as a comparison and a candle puts out about 17 lumens - A candle works well enough when its night - the more light a led light puts out the more batterys will be needed - Even if it uses solar to charge you need good sun days to charge - Ive rode out at least 20 huricanes and 3 ice storms were im at any of them can knock power out for months were i live - after katrina there were some out of power for two yrs - You just need enough light to get by after a storm - i have enough light to read by that 60 lumens or 1 watt led lights - they also have them on amazon that work on 12 volt batterys - its a E26 base 1 watt 12 volt light about equal to about 2 kerosene lamps of light or 8 candle power -

Thanks for sharing your insights and experience! You bring up a great point about lumens and power efficiency during an outage. While 1000 lumens can be very bright for emergencies, some people prefer having that level of illumination for safety or specific tasks. Your suggestion of using lower-wattage LED lights for efficiency is really valuable, especially for long-term power outages. It’s great to hear from someone who has firsthand experience with hurricanes and ice storms-your knowledge is definitely appreciated!

In May of 2022 FEMA and the Pentagon had a meeting about when the New Madrid fault line triggers - They don't know if it will be intense or mild - in 1810 or so it violently went off and the ground shook for a 1000 miles north east and south - That fault line goes off every 200 yrs during a solar cycle - if the Madrid goes off strong it will destroy 14 major commerce bridges crossing the Mississippi River - all roads and bridges will be destroyed a thousand miles out including i55 north to south - All fiberoptic communication cable crossing the Mississippi will be destroyed and with high voltage transmission towers - The solar cycle 25 were in now is a normal occurrence every 205 yrs - there will be 30 yrs of erratic weather and it it gets considerably colder during these 30 yr cold periods - I've committed on looking up JOHN L Casey' the NASA scientist has seminars on the suns 25 the cycle - he wrote his first book, Cold Sun around 2007 I think - Out of the FEMA/Pentagon meeting in 2022 the top thinkers and scientist in the country were there - There thinking is if the Madrid fault line if it violently triggers - others than cutting off most or all commerce to effected areas - it will cut off all fuel supplies - what we use the most of is fuel - The word icon means idol - our primary idol is energy that's includes electricity - because of electricity we live very comfortable lives - But as in Texas you can see what happened during the winter storm of Feb 2021 - you can listen to phone calls made to 100s on how they coped with the power outages and in many cases natural gas supply interrupted also - That occurrence was short lived - At the FEMA & the Pentagon meeting there conclusion is if the Madrid violently triggers 99.99% will perish in the first yr of effected areas - that included prepers - you have to remember 99% of prepers also live off the gluten rich roman diet also - so in all probability they will perish with the rest of the population - It's each his own on how to deal with coming changes - There is that old saying Knowledge is Power - another is get wisdom even if it cost you all the wealth of your house - It's possible to adjust to the future if your ready now -

Growing up we had a cistern and picture pump it worked fine until the leathers went bad then we'd either have to prime it or find an old pair of leather shoes and cut the tongue out of them and use them for leathers.

That’s an incredible piece of old-school wisdom! Having a cistern and pitcher pump is such a reliable way to access water, and your resourcefulness in using leather from old shoes to fix the pump is truly impressive. It’s a great reminder that ingenuity and practical skills are just as important as the tools themselves. Thanks for sharing this valuable knowledge! 💧🛠️👏😊

Most are not familiar with oil lamps today - if your using the out door tin oil lamp they tend to leak around the seam on the bottom so set them on a plate - With regular oil lamps you have to order extra wicks or roles of wicks - a oil lamp burns away about and inch of wick per gallon of fuel burned - You need extra globes also a little sprinkle of water will crack a globe - For a night light the small round wick oil lamps work out better they don't burn as much fuel - The oder of a oil lamp can be strong that's why they cell scented oil for oil lamps - kerosene can have a strong oder - I also have used mineral sprits in them along with charcoal liter fluid - With the small oil lamps with a small round wick I've super glued globes at times when they cracked or broke - You need oil lamps and those large round candles to back up any solar lights - the battery's often go bad in solar lights also there are times of overcast that can block the sun light for long periods preventing solar lights with solar panels from charging -

Isn’t it totally ridiculous that we are trying to prepare for this? 😳🤯😡

I completely understand your frustration! 😳🤯 It’s unsettling that we even have to think about preparing for long-term blackouts, but unfortunately, disruptions can happen for many reasons-weather, grid failures, or other unforeseen events. The goal of preparedness isn’t fear, but peace of mind-knowing that if something happens, you and your loved ones will be ready. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 💡🔋🔥

Are you trying to k*ll us headphones-people? I'm trying to listen to this while doing laundry and you're bussin' my eardrums with the loud beeping! You can just tell us, you don't have to sound off all the alarms.

Learning to crochet and knit would be a good skill to keep you busy. So glad I learned both. No internet or tv would not bother us. There would bre more things to worry about.

That’s a fantastic mindset! Learning to crochet and knit is not only a great way to stay busy but also a valuable skill for making clothing, blankets, and other essentials. It’s great to hear that being without internet or TV wouldn’t be a major concern for you-staying self-sufficient and adaptable is key. Thanks for sharing your perspective! 🧶💡😊

What worries me the most is that our money is saved online. If the internet goes down, we won't be able to withdraw any of it! What to do?
@FrugalPantry

That’s a very valid concern! In an extended internet outage, access to digital banking and online savings could be severely impacted. A good strategy is to keep a small amount of cash on hand for emergencies and consider diversifying where you store your money. Precious metals, local credit unions, or even prepaid debit cards can offer alternative financial security. Being prepared for disruptions is key-great question, and thanks for bringing it up! 💰💡📉
