One historical fact about the castle, has to do with the Martim Moniz square where you had those oriental food treats. The name Martim Moniz was the name of a Noble or a soldier of the Portuguese army during the reconquest of Lisbon from the Moors, as the forces were trying to enter the castle from one the gates, the Moors tried to close it and to prevent them from doing that, Martim Moniz used his body to stop the gate from being closed...he was crushed and died but the Portuguese troops managed to enter the castle and take back Lisbon. His sacrifice made it possible, so his name was given to the square.

Isn’t it!? It’s so difficult to get a present for men, they seem doesn’t need nothing, doesn’t want nothing! 😂
I really like the croissant shirt, it’s so cute! But I really loved Jacqueline’s thoughtful process in selecting a gift. She just ran up against budget too many times! Too bad about the night market. I know Hualien is hurting for tourists after the earthquake. Maybe some shops have reduced hours because of it. Those noodles look amazing though. I like the small restaurants in Taiwan a lot.

Woah, money limit is one thing, but the 30 minute is wild, incredible that you pulled it off, well done. Both are good gifts and guys are so much harder to shop for, thats true. I still have to vote for Max because that sweater is just so funny! Happy New Year to you! 🌲✨

20 years ago in a small city in remote China, I had my 20 employees do a team building exercise similar to what you did. I gave each 3 person team RMB 100 ($12), similar to your NT$400 but worth 5x at the time. I gave them 2 hours so they could explore the local market and strategize. One team went to a poor local school, found a poor orphan and donated the money in front of the entire class of 40 students and teacher. They said it was the best use of the funds and they won the contest as everyone was moved by the pictures.

Since Max is of French descent, the croissant top wins by a length of a Pocky stick. But had Max picked the “I farted in the car” sweat shirt, he would’ve been disqualified. I guess Max just did what 99% of men would do when gift shopping, myself included, telling the sales clerk what the budget is and asking for recommendations 😂.

Don't waste your time and money on those claw machines. They r setup by the owners to not pick up the toy and drop it or miss it. Just use your money on the food and drinks.

As a judicial court clerk I work very close to the old bakery and buy bread there regularly. I also see the groups of tourists roaming around in the old city centre. The bakery looks somewhat ugly and poorish inside but the pastries are good. (Will update this comment after seeing the whole vídeo)

I think Dragon Ball T-shirts are the best gifts. What a pity!😂 I guess the huge earthquake in last April also makes some shops close in the night market. Much fewer tourists visit Hualien after the earthquake.
Didn’t know you are quite competitive heh! My vote goes to ………………. Jacqueline❤ ( does anyone call you Jackie?) Cheers

haha 😅 we are SUPER competitive with each other and also against others as a team! That was the correct vote by the way 🫶 and yes most people call me Jacqui but Max is French so he prefers Jacqueline

Bamboo rice usually comes with rice alone. You simply enjoy the extra unique fragrance from bamboo. They are convenient to carry and attractive for rice lovers. Aboriginal made them when they have to go hunting or farming away from home. They also made them when they hold a ceremony or festival or have to treat important visitors.

It was really yummy rice, I guess our western brains just couldn't understand rice as the main dish 😂
@angus771116 сағат бұрын
On the one hand, because of the continuation of the traditional agricultural society lifestyle, and on the other hand, because early life was relatively poor, carbohydrates (rice or noodles), which were relatively cheap and filling, were used as the main dish. Only when you are full you could have the energy to work,. all other dishes are just side dishes. BTW, In less affluent times, meat was a luxury, and offal was a cheaper source of protein, so there are many offal dishes in Taiwan, including pig blood and duck blood. Pigs, cattle, sheep, chickens, ducks, fish... no part of any animal should be wasted. In order to make these perhaps unpalatable offal suitable for rice, cooks try their best to cook them deliciously.
