Super props to anyone who posts a video of their mistakes. People who've never spun, or want us to believe they've never spun, go back to Forza and stay quiet. Put your car on the track, take the turns faster and faster, and eventually you will spin. That said, try not to spin where the walls are close to the asphalt. Sad to see your ride dented.

letting the car go straighter at exit over the grass wouldn't have caused the problem as well, too much right hand lock on exit grass was the problem at 0:19, but it was sortable by bringing lock to center at this exact point. In an MX5 without power steering it would not even let you attempt to put that right hand lock on

Very good job keeping your head in the game and remembering to pull your hands away from the steering wheel when you felt the first impact. A lot of people don't realize how quickly a steering wheel can shatter hands/wrists.

@@penapvp2230 the exact same thing happens when you're drifting. LOL Yet, you don't see drifters arms breaking when they grab the wheel. The "arm break" happens when the front wheel actually hits something solid, and it forces the wheel that way, and you're not ready for it.

I agree. If he's opened his wheel to straight and committed to going two wheels off, he'd have had a better chance of saving it.

@@beratsbuilds It was the last race of the 2016 season, so repaired it over the winter, but then in 2017 i was involved in a much worse crash. Have a look for "Big Crash/Roll Castle Combe, TARC, 2017". I did start rebuilding in 2017, but made very slow progress partly due to life and doing other things. It almost looked like you had brake bias issues, you had a big lock-up into the hairpin on that lap too so I wonder if you had a bit too much rear brake which caused you to pinch the rears on turn-in. Fortunately despite quite a thump into the tyres it looks like you got away with mostly cosmetic damage and the need for an alignment. Very frustrating...

@gosportjamie6 жыл бұрын
+SJW Motorsport 46 Yes, that's a corner that really teases you into going in too fast and then you end up swapping ends. Definitely a case for discretion rather than valour, a little slower in, a lot faster out...
@jaredellis27547 жыл бұрын
Having driven a few MX5s they are certainly fun cars but the grip leaves a lot to be desired going into corners. If you give it any throttle at the wrong time then the back will slide out. Great drifting cars but thats about it. Not worth trying to turbo charge or SC it into a track car.
@DepakoteMeister5 жыл бұрын
You gotta be kidding. A well setup MX-5 has tons of grip and no tendency to oversteer unless deliberately called for.

Willem, why do you think the accident happened?
@focussport2 жыл бұрын
@@blackettphotography im not him, but its because he ran wide out onto the grass curbing and instead of feeding out the wheel and straightening the car he kept the same steering angle, lost traction, and never snapped back to grip. If he would have opened the steering out instead if trying to fight hard back on track he might have stayed in one piece.

Calzonii09 It's a 1.8 and at this point is was NA. pretty much standard. right now (and in my 2016 vids) it's been modified to run on ITBs and has oversized high compression pistons, oversized valves and aggressive racing cams. it's just under 200bhp now.

Glad to see you took your hands off the wheel as that could have been a wrist snapper! No such dramas at Combe I hope as there is even less room for error there unless you spin to the inside. Quite a few people spun to the inside when I was there in my RenaultSport Clio on April 1st. Thankfully there were no big accidents though.
@WillemV829 жыл бұрын
Hands off and eyes closed!!! Haven't crashed at Combe luckily! Came close a couple of times at Quarry but the car isn't fast enough to get really upset! Tower is a corner that's really tricky in the wet, two other mx5 went into that wall when I was there on the 21st of March! I managed to stay on the black stuff though, obviously wasn't pushing hard enough!
@georgejacob31629 жыл бұрын
Willem Verhaak Lucky not to crash at Quarry! There is an onboard video of someone crashing on a Track Day at Quarry in the wet (I think) in a Mazda MX-5. On April 1st I nearly crashed my RenaultSport Clio just after Tower as I was concentrating on the Toyota MR2 in front and didn't realise until the last second that it was off the circuit and not moving! Like 'Ah! THERE's the chicane!' So, I went through Bobbies chicane MUCH quicker than I usually would whilst coping with Toyota MR2 engine oil all over the track! How the car stayed pointing the right way was just 100% pure luck as I admit that I lost control of it, simple as. Needless to say I headed straight into the pits to calm my nerves! I've not had a problem with Quarry corner but last time I was at Combe was on April 20th with my just bought piece of shit Subaru WRX (bloody thing is all out of gears and ideas at 120 mph, well disappointed with it!) and this bloody low flying Hercules transport plane absolutely shit me up as it literally overtook me as I was right on the apex of Quarry! I didn't hear it but I saw the shadow and thought something was about to broadside me! It's on someone else's KZbin video 'Castle Combe Track Day 20/04/15 Peugeot 306 Gti-6.' I get overtaken at 1:56 by this Peugeot in my slow-ass Subaru and then the Hercules can be seen later in the video at around 7:54 I think. That well shit me up!
