Have not founda better coil! Although have switched to Minelab 800 lately, as I am at the beach more often.

Every vid and most reviews have been great for the NEL Thunder! I have the AT Pro, but only one coil. A very good one at that,.The 5x8, (my area is really trashy, lol). So I have been looking for something to take out with me to larger open spaces with less trash and I think the Thunder is the winner! That 14.5" north to south coverage takes up plenty of hunting room in front and the 10.5" seems ideal for pinpointing without having to hold a button down like I most likely would on a larger coil. Some of the bigger ones like the 15x17 seem like a burden for multiple reasons. Plus I'm a smaller guy just 5'8" 135 lb. so swinging a monster around looks like it can get cumbersome. I hunt for a long time when I go out. I love to make a day of it from dawn to dark, so I'm out there for 12 hours at a time, and three days a week. Yes, it's an addiction and one that I love. The response of the Thunder looks amazing. Can't wait to get my hands on one! Sorry for rambling on. ;)

Great finds brother! Where did you purchase your coil? I'm in Canada so I'm trying to get the best deal. I was going to get the Tornado until I saw your review on the Thunder!
@rcgulka6 жыл бұрын
I ordered my thunder coil for the AT Max from the Ukraine. Took about 1 month to get here but was the cheapest and it work incredibly well. Much better than the stock coil! I am in Manitoba and total cost was 246.00cdn

if you ever mentioned it, i must have missed it. In this hunt what was your settings on the AT Gold?
@poltorazemlekopa37167 жыл бұрын
Take garrett ace 250 or 300 and run, you will catch same coins with it
@btbd24027 жыл бұрын
Yes, you probably will. However its the big stuff that is easy. The 250 would struggle to sniff a gold earring at 6". This would POP. There is a point where the AT Gold excels. And it is not on finding coins. The AT Pro is more geared toward coins, since it has a lower frequency, designed more for silver. The AT "Gold" has a higher frequency to better sniff Gold. Id love to see a video comparison!

hi are you still using that thunder coil and hows it been working
@btbd24027 жыл бұрын
Hi Ed, Its been gathering dust due to work, but i love the coil! id rather miss small ear rings, and find deep rings, anyday. and thats the real trade off. happy hunting! -B

hi hows that pinpointing with the thunder coil
@btbd24027 жыл бұрын
Pinpointing is a little less accurate, as yiu would expect. but we still find the loot! so i think its a good trade off. more ground coverage, more depth!

Thanks for the informational live dig video & CONGRATS on your 2 rings! I've been wanting to get a Thunder coil for my AT Pro & finally got one after several months of waiting for dealers to get them in again. I can't wait to use it myself. Thanks again for the quality video.

Love the video brother...but, I'm a little confused....Colonial detectors website says "(Not for use with the Garrett AT Gold)". It sure seems to be working for you. I've read about similar issues with other NEL coils as well. If it turns out to be true, I have an AT Pro and I'll make you a fair offer on your used Thunder...😜 thanks for taking the time and the video, I look forward to more.

Thanks bro! it works fine as you can see. i actually have 2 thunder coils, 1 is brand new.... still in box. I also have the BIG. Ill post more videos in spring, its all rain here now. happy hunting! -B

Great finds! I have had the NEL Storm coil for my AT PRO now for about a year, and love everything about it, except the weight. You can cover a LOT of ground with it. I like the footprint of the Thunder though, and would definitely like one of those too!

Wow ... very cool findings. You mentioned that they sent you the Thunder coil for the AT-Pro. I'm wondering if you finally got the NEL Thunder coil for the AT-Gold? If so, have you noticed any difference? Please keep the videos coming ... well done.
@btbd24028 жыл бұрын
Hi George. Unfortunately I can not get anyone to respond whether or not the at pro coil is universal for the gold. And honestly. it has been working so well, i have kind of forgot to keep asking! Im just swinging away. I do know that when Garrett makes coils they are universal for the gold vs. Pro, i asked them, but they could not speak for NEL. So i assume the coil is for both models, but not sure. If you end up getting a thunder just be aware that the displayed numbers change slightly, and its not easy to ground balance. I usually manually ground balance off of memory, since letting the rig balance automatically will often take the balance number to less than 10 for some reason, when I know it should be 40-50. Thanks for watching, and subscribing! Happy hunting! Cheers -B
@georgemohr8 жыл бұрын
B, thanks so much for getting back to me. I've already ordered The Thunder coil ... its on its way. I will definitely pay attention to the ground balance issue ... thanks for the heads up. If you are interested I'll let you know if the Thunder coil for the AT-Gold responds the same way as the coil they sent you for AT-Pro with respect to GB. Can't wait =)
@btbd24028 жыл бұрын
That would be awesome, thank you! My coil has a sticker right where the shaft attaches to the coil that says "at pro". Please let me know if yours says the same, or if its "at gold". One other tip i would say is that anything over 6inches deep does not read clear. it will act like junk, jumping around, but when you dig it out a bit, the signal will clear up! Even coins, and rings. Anything shallow is pretty accurate though. anything deep that's not definite iron is worth investigation! Cheers! - B
@georgemohr8 жыл бұрын
Sounds good ... thank you. I do have a NEL DD Snake Coil that does say "AT-Gold" where the shaft attaches. I'm going to call Ronnie DeGhetto @ thegolddigger.com. I think he's the guy that knows more about NEL coils than anyone I've ever talked to. I'm going to check with him on your sticker with respect to the AT-Gold. I'll let you know around Tuesday (that's the day it is supposed to be here). Soon as it arrives I'll be out in the local park giving it a spin ... fun stuff.

Dear. thanks for the great video . may I knew please what is your a metal detector and how is the depth . given to us your experience please . we need more information sir, regards
@btbd24028 жыл бұрын
Toyota Subaru . yes, it is a Garrett AT Gold. im using the NEL Thunder coil. (NEL is aftermarket, from Ukraine). the depth with this setup is about 10" on a nickel, and about 18" on a larger object such as the pocket watch. a soda can is easily 2 ft. so it depends on the size of the target, and your swing speed. -Cheers! -B

What number was the quartz gold reading on your AT gold ?? vs the small nugs vs the big nug??
@btbd24028 жыл бұрын
I just ran them over my AT gold again to be sure. Im using the stock small coil. The quartz is 53-54-55 every time. The big nug was 67-68-69 every time. The small nugs at the lowest i could get it was 46, but generally 48-53 on average for the gram size nugs. I have never found a gold ring even that was lower than the mid 40s. What im curious of is what a "retirement" nug would come back as??? Im assuming 99, maxed out. I hit a silver dollar a few weeks back " I think i posted it in a video" and the silver dollar was 99 every time. I know silver is higher, but i have to assume HUGE gold would disguise itself as a big soda can... unfortunately, lol. Happy hunting friend! - B

Those coils are by NEL. A Russian company. But they get great reviews, and will improve your depth for those old relics! (I have the "big" coil, its too damn heavy! Just fyi.
