I suggest you to press the two white keys (C+D) with your thumb and to put your index on the black key in the same time.

I’m lucky I have huge hands, and I’m quite young, my hands might have up to 10 more years to grow and I can already play a eleventh on both of them ( just barely )

It's either 1. Roll the chords Or 2, the lesser known one, use a piano with narrower keys(although pianos with narrower keys are rare)

Your Rach sounds majestic in the other vid as well, epic and poetic as his soul, broad like russian step. Carries beautifully all the way to Switzerland 😀You have those extra qualities which can't be practiced nor learned, only cultivated within. The sincerity in your playing is palapable and you truly create. Your vision is phenomenal, that's the focus, it will overwrite any challenges. As someone mentioned, he himself would break the chord to grab onto its richness.
I feel your pain. Some of us (barely reach a 9th) weren't meant to play Rachmoninoff, I guess.

There are recordings of Rachmaninoff playing that introduction using broken chords, so don't feel bad about doing it yourself. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnPbXqeoZqt3rLs

You win some you lose some - with big hands it''s harder to play some intricate twiddly bits especially between the black keys.

Use the thumb. It should be possible to play a black and white key together with just the thumb.

You learn to leave a LOT of notes out playing Rachmaninoff. I’m working on the 3rd again now. My hands ache!

I heard that they have a plaster reproduction of Rachmaninoff's hands in a museum, and his hands were indeed huge. I also heard that he had terrible stage fright and oftentimes had to be pushed onto the stage.

I just checked and this prelude is pretty ok in extension, there's a 10th A down to F# and it apears briefly two times. He has way more crazier extensions than this. Just to be clear, I'm not downplaying your efforts and merits of playing this prelude.

yeah same for me although I am 18 years old but the thing is that I was trying to play his etude tableaux Op. 33 No. 4 in D minor, and there's a part that the left hand is playing C-G but my damn pinky can only reach 11th notes, can't even try to reach one more note....

You should watch Boris Karloff's Thriller episode "The Terror in Teakwood". The world's greatest pianist, a fictional Rachmaninoff, writes pieces that only he can play, due to his large hands. The #2 pianist goes to ridiculous extremes so that he can play #1's music.

I can only grab a 9th, and it's hard not to press an extra key while doing it, so that that's all I got.
