Have a 96 1400. Batt wasnt charging and back firing when getting off throttle. Woulds also stall at idle and kow engine speeds. Changed stator and rect fir it to not start. Cranks but wont start. Swithed placment of the 2 black magnets and still no go. Its an aftermarket. The. First time i placed magnets based on wire color and have read that can be reversed on afmkt stators. Short of putting mags back where they were or replacing the old stator back what am i missing?
@greendoorgarage2 ай бұрын
It's hard to say, It is posable another wire got pulled loose or not re connected. posably a coil wire. I would suggest putting the old one back in and and see if it will start, if not then look for another reason for the no start becouse you will know it's not the stator.

Thanks for uploading this, do you have to re synchronise the carbs after this or is putting the cables back at same adjustment enough to get away with it.?
@greendoorgarage2 ай бұрын
You should always re sync your carbs but sometimes you get lucky and don't have too. if you but it back together and it runs good then run with it. If you do have to re sync you can make your own sync tool with 2 Mason jars and some fuel line and transmission fluid, there are videos on how to do it. good luck an happy riding.

I have this same year and model and think this might be my next maintenance. I was losing headlight and power the other day. Seemed intermittent and flickering and i just replaced the battery prior to this happening as i was having to jump it every other time. Now in thinking it wasn't the battery at all.

It may be your stator but if your stator is bad they tend to fry your battery as well so you would have had to replace it anyway

@@stewartmacrae6149 So I'm thinking since I newly acquired this bike, the Stator and spark plugs and cleaning carbs are next... Since purchasing it in May (only one prior owner) had a fuel leak from one of the petcock hoses- replaced all 3 hoses and the fuel leak stopped, also replaced both air filters (good thing i bought those- there was huge gouges and holes in the corners!), replaced battery, and did an oil change... this latest problem only revealed itself after my drive after all the aforementioned maintenance done all at the same time... I have a multimeter and would love to see your process of diagnosing the stator. I also will look at replacing the spark plugs. My 94 intruder only has less than 18K miles so I suspect there were some other things never maintained or addressed... Since this is a relatively big job for a newb, before i get into the case, I want to be sure what gasket and part I should be looking at replacing as I don't have a garage so will need to do it all in a weekend. Could you possibly post the part numbers you used in your video description? also did you go OEM or A/M or is that even an option here? So far have been using all OEM parts.... Also side note! Your intruder is one of the first I've seen with the taller rider pillion pad like mine had- mine the screws were apparently stripped and I lost it on a super windy day on the freeway- can't find a replacement pad anywhere... ended up just getting the shorter/default rail and replacing the top rails with the normal shorter rail to keep it looking OEM. Be careful with the toolbay cover seat pad- maybe reinforce it with Velcro or something- lost that too and only one anywhere is sold outta Ebay from Korea for $200 plus $50 shipping! Yikes! Managed to find a replacement after weeks of calling a bunch of motorcycle salvage yards off an intruder 800 in Texas that was a match thank goodness as it saved me couple hundred- doubt i'll find another one!

Update: went to start testing regulator and stator today, apparently the negative terminal on the battery the screw came off and I think that was the root of all my recent problems because after reconnecting it ran completely fine. No electrical or engine issues. I was terrified it was the (very expensive) stator part but did some multimeter tests and I think it was just my dumb@** somehow not tightening negative terminal screw on battery enough which explains problems on last few rides- must have connected enough to start up like normal but only resting against terminals created problems when faced with the wind. Not sure if the screw has been missing the whole time or if it fell off the bike just now cuz it was just sitting under the bike... I do park in the same exact part of my driveway so I suppose could have been sitting there since my battery replacement a week ago. But either way working good now! Thank God and God bless America. Happy Independence Day! 🎆

Hi Greendoorgarage 👋🏻 I have a 99 Vulcan 800 and there is a hose that is on the right side of the gas tank which I believe it is a ventilation tube but I’m not sure if it is actually plugs in somewhere or not. Could you help me out with where that hose supposed to go to or is it just one side stays open and the other comes out of the right side of the gas tank?
@stewartmacrae61496 ай бұрын
It is hard to know for sure without pictures but in most cases the breather hose run either to the gas tank or intake manifold, in some cases they run to a vent in the crank case or top of the head.

I know sometimes they seem like they don't fit, they can be really hard to get back on some times. try a bit of lube on the duct and on the carb, if that doesn't work maybe try to heat up the rubber with a hair drier or heat gun (not to much though) then try. I find if you put it on the carb first and tighten the clamp then put on on the filter sometimes works best. I hope this helps good luck.

@greendoorgarage Жыл бұрын
Too get the throttle cable off you have to split the casing on the handle bars, there are 2 screws on the bottom of the casing. As for the speedo it could be a broken cable. to remove that it just unscrews with a thumb screw on both ends, the one at the speedo might be tricky because it is tucked up in the speedo case. I hope this helps. I should have a video on how to do both but if not I will try to get one up soon.
