My family have asked me to be auctioneer at the family reunion this coming summer largely because they know I don’t mind speaking in front of crowds. I was hoping to surprise them with some bid calling skills and I am so thankful I have found this video. Thanks in advance!! 🫡 I am now subscribed.

just posted a short vid for you.. so we really only use 1-10, if you're in the 1000's, 100,000's or millions you're only mentioning that periodically. If I'm at 1000 bid trying to get to 2000 in $100 increments I'd say 1000, 1000-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 15 bid now 6, now 7 (your audience knows this is 1700)

Great stuff... I'm getting ready to be an auctioneer tomorrow for the first time, and possibly the last time ever.... A close friend is moving out of state, and he asked me to auctioneer all of his stuff off. I'm not sure if my voice will hold up, but I'm going to try..... Something I have wondered about for a long time, most of the auctions that I go to, if not all of them, the auctioneer will almost always start out at a much higher number than the first bitters willing to pay.... Is that a ploy to get someone to jump in early? And over pay?.. if that's the case, it never seems to work, and it seems like it's an awful lot of waste of time.... Tomorrow, if I'm getting ready to sell an item that I think might bring $10, I'm probably not going to start at $10 or $20. I'm probably going to start at $1 or $5.... What is the purpose of starting out higher?
@auctioneerfast
@auctioneerfast Жыл бұрын
Ok!... great question;) once an item has been described and you're ready to begin selling, the first number you're asking for (high number) is to establish for the audience the price you want for the item. It's not a trick, you're setting the expectation of the item's value. If you hold up a juice blender and say "who'll bid me 50" you're telling the audience that's where you expect to be. The key is to open with what you need, then very quickly drop to the bottom and go up fast. Example- Who'll bid me 50 I'll take 10 to start 5 thank you, now 10, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 *the jump from 10 to 30 is not an error.. if have you a bunch of hands in the air go ahead and switch from 5's straight to 10's.. or more.. go has high as you think the audience will tolerate in that moment.. (based on how many hands are in the air.. if half the room has their hand up you need to change increment fast..) don't be afraid to increase the increment.. if they're bidding.. take it! we don't want to be laddering down slowly.. don't do this: Who'll bid me 50, how about 45, how about 40, anyone at 35? 30? 25? 20?... dont do this. They will just wait you out... and yes it's very painful and kills all your momentum.. just hit it!.. Ok 50? I'll take 25 to start.. anyone at 10!... then just go!!!! fast and up Hope that helps;) Patrick

Having my first live auction in a couple of days. Have basically bid it at and woodagiv / woodsgid down. My question is what is a soild basic chant for a beginner?
@auctioneerfast
@auctioneerfast Жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, great question. The best solid basic chant for a beginner is one that you can execute solidly.. if that make sense. A well executed simple chant, with clear and simple filler words with clear numbers and a nice rythm (cadence) is far better than a poorly executed complicated chant and an attempt for speed. Master your chant.. keep it simple and clean, and be the best at it. Speed will come on it's own.. and when you get there, you'll still be clear and clean. The 3 fillers I focused on in "Fillers" are fundamental basics to start with. Please keep in mind, I am not a livestock auctioneer, I'm an auto auctioneer and generalist. The livestock chant "cattle rattle" is very specific and different than what I'm teaching here. There's also lots of teachings on that if it's what you do. Hope that helps!

Just passed Georgia test and it was no walk in the park, even though I got 100% on school test and studied like heck everyday. How do you recommend I get faster?
@auctioneerfast
@auctioneerfast Жыл бұрын
Filler Drills. Exactly what I'm describing in this 3 part program. The greatest auctioneer on earth, John Nicholls explained it to me this way: speed will come, clarity is first. You have to master your filler words and be able to annunciate them clearly in order for you to do it faster. Take for example "would you give / woodagid", now you may or may not use woodagid, but as an example, you have to be able to pronounce it clearly first before you can do it faster. There's no other way. Be careful of the trap of slurring filler trying to find speed.. it may work (speed) but your chant will sound like slurred nonsense. Focus on your clarity on your fillers and you'll get faster.. that's how this works. And be sure to hit your numbers clearly - that's what your audience needs to understand. If your bidder dont know where the bidding is at because they dont understand the numbers, then the chant is nothing more then a cool party trick . And one more thing on the topic of speed: It's often an illusion. Quick, clear execution of filler doesnt necessarily equate to a fast chant (as you would measure in BPM on a metronome) Clear filler executed quickly may give the impression of a fast chant, when in fact it's only the delivery of the filler that's done quickly. The actual cadence of the greatest auctioneer chants is generally not that fast in BPM.. it just sounds that's way. The best example of this is Auctioneer John Nicholls (look up 2006 Championship), who's chant strikes a perfect balance between quick and fast.. Study John's chant. Hope that helps!

Why do auctioneers need to talk so nobody can understand them?
@auctioneerfast
@auctioneerfast Жыл бұрын
Great question! The best auctioneers ensure that their chant is clear on the numbers so the audience understands clearly both the current bid amount and the requested bid from the Auctioneer. This is all tied together in a rythmic chant by the use of filler words which are either actual words or modified words used to create a rythmic and pleasant cadence.
