Dear Fdsewr, this industrial computed tomography scanner can detect metal inclusions or cracks inside a wood timber log, along with many other "wood defects" basically to optimize sawing. This is called the breakdown of a log where a number of boards are cut out from round timber. In this process, it is possible to "saw around" defects such as metals, to obtain high quality lumber out of lower quality logs. We do not assess the quality of metal or steel, but you may check out www.raymetic.com for this purpose.
