Lightest swingiest band of all time: and so neglected credited...... 3 1/2 stars....

I love this recording. I wish I could go back in time and live in 1932 for a while.

I strongly suspect that the trombone at 0:45 is future bandleader Will Bradley, who'd played with Noble's 1935-1936 orchestra that recorded for RCA. This session was done in New York, likely using studio musicians, and that was where Bradley was based at the time.

As a clarinetist and saxophonist, I really appreciate the solo and section playing on this side. I also really treasure my old 78 r.p.m. copy of this pairing ( which has, unfortunately, seen much better days ). Many thanks, from Richard Laine, in Canada.

Is this selection also, like ''Lulu'' on the other side, by Al Dubin and Harry Warren? I have the old record but I don't recall the composer info from the label. ( This record is also in much, much better shape than mine! ). I've very much enjoyed hearing both tunes for the first time in decades -- Thank You, Rick!!! Yours, Richard Laine.

This song is so beautiful and perfect for the fall season, it really deserves a place as being a song for Halloween equivalent in status to what winter wonderland is to Christmas

Fred cut so many great records from 1923 until he temporarily stopped in late 1932. Never heard this one until now. Fred outlived most of his 1920s era colleagues (died in 1984, age 84)

I came looking for this song when I heard about it on "The Jack Benny Program". They didn't play the song but, I figured it was something I wanted to listen to. Great song; great quality.

Jones sets out on a lush new ballad style, led by strings and brass. The big difference from Isham's previous ballads is the effacing of rhythmic intensity: the band seems to float on the beat, not pulse to it. It was very much a Depression trend, started by smaller orchestras like Lombardo's and Kemp's. Gordon Jenkins' broad legato arranging, with tutti passages coming on like a "wall of sound," adapted admirably to the new mode. So did the plainer, more romantic songs plugged by publishers, such as _Little You Know._ Clever combinations of instruments or rhythmic gimmicks weren't right for such material.

I now know that Marshall Crenshaw and Vince Giordano and His Orchestra chose to cover this version of this lovely tune. Very pleasant and I love the vibraphone hits that start at 0:10 and pop up every now and then!

Fred changed the beat or arrangements on his recordings around late 1930-31 to what it is on this number and it makes it all the more pleasant.

This is probably the only non-love song that Paul Small ever recorded. It's notable that he appeared on two different versions of it. And when you try to picture Smith Ballew or Chick Bullock doing it, you can understand why! His voice seems uniquely well-suited to the melody, in such a way that it comes off as wholly sincere, despite the silly nature of its subject matter.
