That's great! Who knew it was possible to kill that much time just to save 3 bucks? I'm gonna keep this in mind for the next time I have absolutely nothing better to occupy my time with. NEVER, in other words!

Thanks for the video! I'm building a sequencer for a synthesizer project. At each stage, their is an LED indicating which output is "on", and then out to a pot/output stage. Bascially just sending an adjustable voltage to use as a control voltage for other devices. I'm curious--do you think I could use the pot/CV output to drive an LED instead, so the outputs can light an LED to variable levels? Then I could use your sequencer, and a vactrol, to operate the other devices under optical coupling. I'm waiting for my parts, and hope to breadboard it soon. Just curious if you had any thoughts on it?

So, which direction does diode really go? minute 2:23 you have pointing down, and 1:36 you have pointing up? No wonder some people say it does not work.

As far as I know, this really works but is very inefficient, better just buy a small solar cell, which is cheap. Also, clear LEDs probably gives better results.

My explanation : (before the wire was cut) : the positive terminal current procced through 100k resistor, after that its volt shrinks pretty much, and then it faces two paths( 1 to the transistor base, 2 to the 10k resistor which leads to the negative terminal of the battery,) the current that goes to the transistor base is less than 0.7 volt ( which is the minimum requirement of the transistor's base to open) so negative terminal current won't be let to flow through the transistor, except if you cut the wire, by then the positive charge that had proceed the 100k resistor would only have one path to flow through which keeps its voltage undivided thus higher than 0.7 volt, then the current can flow through the transistor, turning the led on. Was my explanation clear ? If not so, correct me

Could this be modified to be used for moles and voles? I was thinking could two electrodes be put into the ground with some sort of switching system so when the mole/vole is between the electrodes they turn on for a short time to dispatch the mole/vole? Thank you.

DB3 diac avalanches at 32V. The capacitor needs to charge at 32V Diac + 1.6V RED LED = 33.6V. The capacitor needs to be 35V or better. 25V rated it will fail early.
