You always get the best flights when you have no camera John! The only other time I went to the Ferrero Roche I ran out of day too and ended up flying the length of it then landing at the start. I'm glad you got to experience it though, it really is awesome!

Good tip, thanks! I did get this tip before flying, but couldn't get hold of any wax. They also weren't as warm as my other gloves, so if I do wear them again it won't be in that cold spring weather.

I was twitching too high in those mountains. There was quite some west wind blowing me into them and I wondered if I could get out again. I never even thought about the un-landable part in the valley at that point though!

This is a good idea - I have been thinking about how to show a video with better advice on thermalling. I think the best might not to be to actually film a video, but with diagrams and discussion on the technique.

Ha thank you!! I actually eat pretty much anything - an omnivore. Before these competitions I was being strict with my diet, controlling calories whilst trying to eat a lot of protein. We need more protein as we age and also for exercise - but getting enough whilst not overloading calories is more difficult. I eat things like oats, greek yoghurt, chicken, eggs etc to try and keep up those calories. Fibre is also really important, so I try to get lots of vegetables. But once I'm at a competition - diet goes out of the window. I just eat as much as I can to maintain energy on these long days.
