I recently fulfilled my plan (return journey) to bring my fully loaded ebike (Cube) from Cork Kent to Newry (NI) using Irish rail and Translink. Thankfully most if not all the dots joined smoothly. Firstly by being able to wheel my bike aboard at Cork Kent into the dedicated bike carriage which they call a Mark 4 carriage, cycling across Dublin city centre to Connolly, around to the rear car park entrance and directly on to Platform 2. Super easy! The Enterprise from Connolly to Newry, had a dedicated Bike carriage, again wheel-on although it still requires lifting your bike to get it aboard. My one concern was when arriving at Newry at platform 1, there was no easy access to get the bike to the station exit on the opposite side. They kindly suggested I use the lift, but again this requires lifting the bike diagonally and jack it up. Not easy! However, they also suggested I use the down-stairs (easy going down) leading to another car park. This worked! With a heavy ebike. Being on the "wrong sided of the tracks", can cause a problem. No pun intended.

Yes getting from one platform to another can be a nightmare, in Scotland where I’d only a 5 minute transfer window I carried the fully loaded bike up stairs onto the bridge between platforms

Hello sir, thank you for your informative video. I was searching for something similar and found it very helpful. I plan to travel from Sallins to Dolphins Barn and was wondering if the Grand Canal Way would be safe to use during early mornings and evenings, especially during office hours (6am and 6pm) As I don't have an e-bike, I'll need to pedal the entire journey. Do you think this would be feasible for a 20-year-old? Finally, could you estimate how long it took you to travel from your starting point to Sallins? Thank you for your time and assistance.
@Ebiketouringlife
@Ebiketouringlife 2 күн бұрын
Hmmm I think that’s very ambitious. That’s about 30km each way and 3-4km of that on a rough slow surface so tough to do in much under two hours. But also from next month when the clocks change it will be dark around 6 and I think most of the length isn’t lit so at the least you’d want a good head torch. There was a problem with teenagers stealing bikes and attacking riders at the section near Dolphins barn but that was a few years back and I’ve not heard anything recent. That said if you’re a fit 20 year old and determined it’s not impossible and perhaps you don’t have much else in the way of choice financially ? There is a train to Sallins I think, not sure about buses

Im learning by doing with the videos and yeah everyone wants more on where im staying etc so started that this year. The road footage is as much so I have it stored & because when planning routes I often was trying to use street view to get a clue as to how rough an off road section was or how dangerous an on road section. But once I have the full day by day up I’ll do more narrative styles ones across logical multi day segments like Bilbao to Burgos etc.

Love your advice. Would love to know what type of ebike ur cycling please as I have 3 year old Giant Liv Amiti and only use for shopping and occasional long trips but it I think the eco mode is bad on these so I stay in lower manual modes depending on terrain. Buying second battery is good idea but the charger is heavy enough itself. Thinking of looking at lighter ebike with lighter battery and lighter charger. What do you think please?
@Ebiketouringlife

Depends on your touring style - if it’s between hotels or other places your certain of charging then your battery can just have slightly more range than the longest distance you’d do in a day. If like me you wild camp then the extra battery means you don’t need to panic if you go a day without a charging possibility Mine is a Raleigh Motus Tour which I reviewed after 11,000km here in the context of the questions your rightly asking Review after 11,000 km on a Raleigh Motus Tour - 6k of those bikepacking kzbin.info/www/bejne/goScf3drjM6ZpLs
