I rescued a wire hair from the dog pound. He was my perfect little boy for 18 years. He only barked if someone appeared to be threatening me. We drove through a wildlife park and he never barked once.

I got my grandmas wirehaired. He bit a pit bull and killed a possum, then he got aggressive with my now 16 year old when he was a baby. They don’t play

True thing, many use dachshunds for small game hunting (especially wirehaired) in Europe, even for boar hunting. That doesnt mean they actually attack the boars, they track them and chase them out of the bush. Some wire haired males can be 25-30 lbs but average is 15. Ideal for fox, rabbit and badger hence the name - "dachs" means "badger" in german. And they make great pets too, very happy clown dogs, intelligent and loyal.

I'd love to get a Wire Dachshund someday. My wife and I have two long-haired and they are such a fun breed of dog. Super intelligent, loyal, love the outdoors, good watchdogs. My best buds for sure.

Saw so many in Germany and the Netherlands. Here in Canada the mini smooth most common. In Europe the most common dachshund I saw was the standard wire haired and second to that the short haired standard. I have a mini smooth haired and a wire haired silky dachshund. Contradiction of terms but he is a mini wire haired with silky locks. He is currently a teenager and testing my patience! But we love him :)

Wirehaired dachshunds are so ugly they are beautiful. Only once did I see a mini.

Boar is the coat...not that I doubt that these dogs would go after a boar. My boys are 14 lbs and think they're mastiffs.

You don't know what you're missing until you get a mini wire-haired. The wire-haired variety seems to be more common in Germany & Scandinavian countries than the smooth & long but almost unheard of elsewhere

Wire haired dauschunds are the best! My brother has had smooth, wired and short coats and Bosco, his wire haired was the best. He loved me, his Uncle Ricky and paid no attention to my brother whenever I visited. He would cry at night outside the guest room door until I let him in and he slept with me every night. This infuriated my brother to no end!

My sister has a wire haired dachshund and the only thing he hunts for is peanut butter.

Had one of these wirehaired critters. Intelligent highly mischievous but full of fun , but would never groom himself, other dachshunds would try to tidy up his scruffy appearance much to his annoyance haha.

Na,ez a kis hölgy se nagyon szeretheti az állatokat,úgy tűnik,nekem semennyi nem lenne sok,ha lenne elég pénzem rá...szoktam is mondogatni,legszívesebben úgy élnék,mint Brigitte Bardot,a francia színésznőnek egy farmja van és csak állatokkal él együtt,ő se kedveli az emberek társaságát,vagyis hasonlítunk. Jobb lenne,ha nem tenne ilyen megjegyzéseket. Igen,ők vadászkutyák,ez nem vicc.Gyönyörűek,az egyik tacsink nekünk is pont ilyen szálkás szőrű volt,valami tüneményesen kedves kiskutya volt,nagyon jó természetű,kedves,barátságos,imádta az Apukámat,minket is,de Aput nagyon.Olyan kis helyes pofikájuk van,igazán édesek és aranyosak. Makacsok?Nem feltétlen.A miénk nem volt az.Végtelenül nyugodt baba volt. <3 <3 Ő,a mi "kis szálkásunk", Pikó névre hallgatott,felnőttként került hozzánk.Egyszer már írtam,hogy a TV-ben ment egy műsor és épp Bodrogi művész úr szerepelt benne egy beszélgetős műsorban,ahol megfújta a vadászsípját...azt látni kellett volna...a kutyus már ugrott is neki a képernyőnek és figyelte,mint az egykori gazdáját,akivel vadászni járt. :)) Nagyon cuki volt...csupa tűz és lelkesedés! :D Mint írtam előbb,mindene Apukám volt,az Istene,egyszerűen imádta,az érzés kölcsönös volt,természetesen,hiszen ő egy nagyon rendes és klassz pasi volt,igazi állatbarát...szegény kutyus szívbeteg volt és meghalni is úgy halt meg,hogy megvárta,míg az imádott Papája ("Gazdipapa") hazajön a munkából és simogatja,beszél hozzá,sosem feledem el azt a pillanatot,Aput még megvárta,mert nélküle elmenni sem akart...Szegény kis Drágám. ;,(( Nagyon-nagyon tud hiányozni egy ilyen kis kedvenc,borzasztóan.Rengeteg szeretetet tudnak adni,feltételek nélkül.Apu mondta,hogy még a hajléktalan emberekhez is mennyire ragaszkodnak a kutyáik,mert az állatok önmagadért szeretnek,nem a pénzedért vagy más érdekből és bizony egy ennyire szegény ember mit tud adni a kedvencének?Sajnos nem túl sokat. :( A kutyusok mégis maradnak,mert az ő szeretetük tiszta és önzetlen,töretlen és végtelen.Szerettem Apuban,hogy ennyire lelkis,szociális-típus volt,mindig együttérző és segítőkész. In Sweden you mostly see wirehaired dachshunds. I like that they look a bit rugged and 'tough'!

My wife and I are Americans and saw our first standard Wirehaired at the Prater Amusement Park in Vienna. This was 1995. We got back to the states and tracked a breeder down and got our "Fritz" For 17 years the sweetest dog we every had!!
