I just finished the book and I liked it a lot. I am a widow, and I know that grief can have you doing things you never thought you’d ever do. Also, meeting someone who understands what you’ve been through because they’ve been through the same thing can be very attractive. This book was like life, messy but real.

Yup! I'm a Psych NP now, but working as a RN, I fell in love with PRN & travel nursing. I didn't care about the benefits, made better money & had a better quality of life.

I can understand PRN shifts and the desire to earn more money, but it seems like most of the nurses who do this don't have a spouse they can latch onto for medical benefits and thwir is no 401K. A lot of people aren't planning for their future.

I work PRN and still have my 4O1K. Yes, I pay for my medical and dental insurance. I still come out making more money. Having a spouse can be a benefit or a hinderance ✌🏾.

People say this but I had the HARDEST time getting into my preferred specialties, and I’ve worked in the hospital setting for 2.5 years. Spent months applying and interviewing for L&D, Peds, and NICU and everything fell flat. Most of them want experience too. Started having more luck when I started applying for med Surg lol. I think it’s better to prioritize which hospital you want, pay, hours, training, etc. more than specialty because med Surg is a great learning experience and is an amazing foot in the door to get into your specialty of choice in that or any other hospital! You could choose a dream specialty at a bad hospital with barely any support, little pay, long contracts and be miserable.

If it gives you a “foot in the door” then why are you stuck at med surge? It seems as though hospitals trick new grads to go to med surge to get “experience” but once they are in, years pass and hospitals say you don’t have experience in your preferred area of specialty. Bait and switch.

Even though med surg may provide better skills, it’s not worth pushing yourself to do it if it’s going to burn you out twice as fast. Everybody should do what they can to avoid burnout, even new grads. It creeps up on you and one day you realize you’re so worn out you choose to abandon the profession all together.
@taurus-queen8066
@taurus-queen8066 7 ай бұрын
I second that! Med-Surg is NOT the only unit to start. To me, choosing the correct hospital that offers residency for new new grads in all specialties. PACU is a great start as well for New Grads js.
