I think I saw the Royal Scotsman once in Askham, there stood a long green and gold steam train in Askham station, that must have been 1958/9

Paxton Terrace, the taxi house, the chinese restaurant and the ice cafe, those were the days of rock'n roll, the days of the Royal visit, life was just fine.

I walked the bay twice from Bare, a long way down the bay from Hest Bank. I had been a lifeguard during the summer and I knew the tides. I crossed with no difficulty each time. The second time with my brother in law, I was greeted by a copper with the words, "You f*****g idiot". Some one in the flats had reported our departure. Cedric Robinson was hovering in the background as we walked up the beach at Grange-over Sands. No doubt he he disapproved our venture. I found our 'reception' rude and unwarranted. Crossing the bay without the 'Queen's Guide' was obviously deemed to be an outrageous act of insubordination!

Wow, that brought back memories - beginning with the credits! I was 14 at the time the film was made and Allan Hammersley and John Hawkins were among my teachers at the boys' Grammar School. Richard H Keay had a photography shop in Dalton Road and was a Churchwarden at St Matthews which my family attended. Donald Sartain was the Director/Manager at the lovely old Her Majesty's Theatre where I was enthralled by my first visit to a live theatre production as part of a school outing. It was Romeo and Juliet. Many thanks for posting!

This was brilliant. Great to see Barrow through the years. Streets, buildings I never knew existed, seen for the first time. Almost like another town. Love this.
