I am not surprised about the cancellation. Most likely has to do with the budget cuts the government is going through. I believe the current administration yanked the Air Force out of this; DRL then probably lost sponsors afterwards. I hope DRL recoups in the coming months.

I am almost certain I know exactly what happened. They had actually built out and were testing Digital and they ran into technical issues and due to contracts they had signed with that company they can't really share anything, because even some tiny details would let us figure it out.(think 5ms latency vs 20 ms latency) The other thing that happened, the airforce has totally backed away from "hobby FPV".

@djtreq I copied the subtitles of the video to chatgpt, asked for "cliff notes please" read the summary then asked if this video was click bait. You can copy subtitles in different ways but I use "downsub". Hope this helps.

@ yeah, they have been collaborating with some ai f1 company or something. Sad thing is there marketing is shit, they don’t post really about it but they have done a few races in the last 6 months

UPDATE: there’s one more option I didn’t explore: the Air Force backed out after uncovering some shady things about the DRL. I have strong reason to believe this is the case but I’ll keep y’all updated on the Discord

Or the Air Force was forced to stop funding things like this. The loss of the flagship sponsor will tank any event, and not wanting to burn bridges on future government level event funding they're not saying anything.

Greatly improved title and great video. Calling DRL drone racing is like calling Jerry Springer marriage counseling. I’m heartbroken by what seems to be poor stewardship. DRL going away will open the door for others. Still very sad.

I know the reason things fell off. No invitation to jon E5 or Mad Props to document the event. I was also promised similar access to footage, and other resources that never materialized. Side note: MCK just won a $100k purse the other day. The sport is growing, hopefully DRL can come back at some point. Hopefully they can still afford top pilots by the time they materialize, i have a feeling they will cost a lot more the longer they wait.
