I promise you this show hits even/way harder as a mandarin speaker. One of my favorite aspects of the show when I first watched are some of the wordplay they did with names, Mad bark being a sound alike to a famous singer, or Seven's Gaiba egg being a straight up sound alike to pen*s; even their accents alone can express the mood of a scene or character, and play into the unserious factor. Along with so many inside jokes, dark humour, and dad jokes that may really connect more with someone who grew up in a Chinese environment, I was genuinely surprised but very glad this show aired on Netflix and was even widely enjoyed by western audiences. This was a great video and I really appreciate how you've pointed out some things I never actually realized or noticed, and I do also agree with your view on the dubs a lot haha

I’m 3 years late but I loved the video :), and admittedly enough it also impacted me as a creator, giving me a greater drive to make stories There is one thing that a lot of people miss when reading the story though, and I don’t blame them cus a lot of the details are subtle, but JH (the author) is actually Christian and he integrates it into his story, and the Horizon is actually about faith in Christ :shown in things like the lamb stepping on the snake’s head, the crown of thorns, and the drop of blood in chapter 20, and the hand with a hole lifting up the boy in the end (representing Jesus). There’s more references sprinkled throughout the story those are just the more obvious one

KAITO JOKER PEAK!! Though yeah considering its a kids show it can get abit goofy at times, but I absolutely love the main story and backstories aside from all the goofiness... It was my first and favourite anime as a child and even now I still adore it !! Joker is so silly I love him

@@stripedfoxky I'd always recommend reading the manga if you enjoyed it that much, but I read more manga than watch anime at this point. It depends on if you'd rather read ahead and get all the content at once or suffer and wait for the payoff of getting to watch it instead.

1 thing wrong in the video: The dissing of the English localization.For people in the west to watch the anime/Read the Manga,its need a catchy title.And Dungeon Meshi's English translation of "Dungeon meal" or "Dungeon Food" is not catchy enough to get the attention needed.Delicious in Dungeon is catchy,fancy and eye catching.

I am kinda confused on your argument about the character party generic construct. It just is an odd take to say "min maxing" and the cast is offering each race's perspective when in reality each of the main cast don't really good job at it hence the humor. They follow very typical tropes which derive from a DnD like platform but, elves which are supposed to be known for wisdom isn't what Marcielle offers. I appreciate the rest of the takes you provide besides this one in particular.

I personally thing that the Madarin version is one off the worst. Some characters just don't nailed it at some moment, like Seven in serious figths. And my favorite one is the French one. As a frenchman, many people think that french dubs are trash in anime. Which is mostly true. But scissor seven one is the best because, is story and narration aren't the same as a normal anime. They're all good, some off these voice are perfect like Cola

Everyone and everything is now a cyborg. One species, one race, everyone understands each other. I always thought that SYNTHESIS was the better decision. You made one Godlike decision but you don't "Sacrifice the few so the many can live" (DESTROY) nor are you arrogant enough to believe that you'll be forever the best benevolent dictator and someone different than the thousands of dictators in history that also thought "I'm different from the rest" (CONTROL). I think Marcille's wish was correct and would solve many problems.

From what I understand, the demon is something that came from the infinite dimension but it's not the personification of that dimension. So even with it gone, the connection to the dimension is still there, and black magic still exists

There are some extra pages somewhere, but they spell out that the Demon is a personality formed by the energy coming from the other dimension, in order to better understand and serve humans.

Technically that ain’t too “mannish”. Technically that’s just the mid-low part of the female speaking voice with a little bit of vocal weight. It probably just sounds super mannish because it is surrounded by very un “mannish” voices

I think that when the lion emerged, the magic of the demon fused with the world, but without his drive he just disapear (since he is pure desire and power) so now he kinda still live as a part of the world, but no identity, as a part of the nature.

The english name will never be as bad as the spanish name "Tragones y Mazmorras", a play on "Dragones y Mazmorras" the spanish name for DnD, but that literally translates as "Guzzlers and Dungeons" 💀💀💀💀💀

But is really catchy, the story itself feels like an incredibly crafted dnd campaign, and the name "tragones y mazmorras" is catchy and funny

@@whitethereal5283 I mean, it is catchy and rhymes well, but at least in my community (we're latin hispanics, maybe yours is European hispanic?) finds "tragón" as a barely used word and that might have more insulting implications depending on the context, but also the fact of the unnecessary localization in both the english and spanish titles, yeah both are a creative play on "DnD", but for a chance "Dungeon Meshi" is quite the simple japanese title, compared to other stories with impossibly long names that have been localized to something simple, it could have perfectly been "Cocina/Comida de Mazmorra/Dungeon" and in English "Dungen Meal/Cuisine", that's the reason why, at least in my community, we default to the japanese name

Just watched the first 5 episodes launched in netflix then read trough everything in the manga in like, 7 hours nonstop and honestly, i wasnt even tired after i finished reading because its just that good, good world development, good history, awsome characters and a complete ending. If youre thinking of starting this , i really recomend it

I totally agree with you on the ending like i wanted just maybe oneeee more chapter that had a WHERE ARE THEY NOW moment but it's like you said it's probably because I fell in love with the world and characters that I was so sad to see them leave. Did you check out the adventurer's bible on this series that came out? The amount of detail and backstory she wrote on like every freaking character is insane like it feels so fleshed out. I just wish some of it was in the actual story! Like obviously none of it was related to the main plot, but I just crave the character moments so much. Like shuro and his retainers and the backstory on kabru's crew. I heard she's releasing a second adventuerer's bible that has more content aboout what happens after the series ended so I'm looking forward to that whenever it comes out.

I have not checked out the adventurers bible yet, but I definitely plan on it! There was a little extra chapter bit I saw the other day and it made me so happy that there was a little bit of content after the ending but it wasn't enough to satisfy me. I NEED MORE

I always saw Laios as someone who seems more serious than they truly feel (which I connect with his strong autistic coding, some autistic people can seem very serious / bored when they're actually not). His facial expressions give me this feeling in the manga. He often looks pretty stern when I don't think it's really how he feels, kinda like a "default face" he might not realize he's making. I wasn't imagining a specific voice for him, so I still had to adapt, but it made sense to me for that reason.

i disagree with the point you made about character design the most. The character design and diversity and magical uniqueness of this manga is for me its best point.. all the characters focus on practicality and not flashiness, theyre not meant to look cool, theyre meant to survive in the dungeons adn thats why i think you see them as boring but in my opinion the character designs serve their role perfectly. It would be very out of place if it had been anything else.

I would never read dungeon meshi if it looked like frieren, and i know that because i get filtered by frierens artstyle. I find it really hard to care for people with such generic animu faces. Well its really more than that - i hate the colors in the anime because everything is so bright it hurts my eyes, and the artwork is manga is basically just dodjin level with the boring linework and a world that looks so generic it could be sao. Its sad because my friends love the story and i just cant watch it

I agree, maybe they don't have flashy colors, but the difference between characters!, no character with the same face, the mangaka got every character designed like the other races. Simple it's not the same that boring or bad, and this series shows

Agreed, this is my favorite part of Dungeon Meshi. You can really tell Ryoko Kui has made an effort to study and portray many different face and body types, no two characters look the same and there's types of characters that most mainstream artists just don't even bother touching, unless it's to make them the butt of a joke. The way she draws monsters is also phenomenal, I really enjoy how she's woven fantasy biology and magic so well- not as opposing forces, but rather two things that just co-exist, much like Monster Hunter does. It's really easy to explain everything away as "magic" in a fantasy world, but that really leads to the story's backdrop becoming "generic Tolkien-DnD-inspired high fantasy world number 23438974", so it's very cool that this is not the case in Dungeon Meshi and IMO what makes it stand out to me.
