Why can't you afford to decorate for christmas? I'm old and I have tons of decorations from the past. You don't have to pay for a Christmas tree to decorate your home. Ceiling fans need to be installed. If the switch is in the counter clockwide direction, will bring the air from the ceiling down to the floor. There was a portable fan, that needs to be used in the immediate, directed upwards to dry out the condensation. The Germans practice something called luftenhaus, I think it is called. In the mornings, even if freezing cold, the windows are opened to release the build up of any bad air, includes carbon monoxide from heating devices, This also releases condensation which contributes to mold and mildew. This is what I do daily for my California bay area apartment. A small bag of charcoal briquets but not with lighting fluid, near a problematic large window, seems to be a great help at drawing in and holding moisture. This keeps mold and mildew off the windows. In the front window, my african violet takes in a lot of moisture in the air. It is a daily check of the windows, sometimes dry and sometimes wet. Also, I wash and airdry my clothes in the bathroom with a portable fan. Never any mold or mildew issues as I keep the fan on at all times, in addition to occasional running of the bathroom vent. Keeping the air circulating is the key to keeping mold and moisture prevention.
