One of the sad lackings of the American educational system is that, unlike in my youth, reading aloud is no longer done. Because of this, though in most respects an excellent reading of this classic, the unfamiliarity of the sound of certain words can be off putting . One is the reader's use of the word giblet several times for the word gibbet. One is the gut of a chicken the other a gallows. Otherwise, an excellent effort.
Isabell Bird is an extraordinary woman who wrote a series of books about her solo world travels. This book describes her visit from England to America in 1856, shortly before the Civil War. Her comments about local lifestyles, commerce and especially slavery provide powerful insights into the American way of life, state by state. Twenty years later she traveled from San Francisco through the Sierras and Rockies. That trip was by train and by riding horses alone through the mountains - see: "A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains". She wrote other books about her life in Asia and other parts of the world.

Don't post audiobooks read by people who can't pronounce English words properly. Disgraceful.

A whole line up of bad readers, just to have the end read by the worst of the bunch. People, please know your limitations and do not volunteer to stroke your egos.

Sorry But poor audio quality IMO So I won't listen for 5 hours. Listen to Bitesize audiobooks or Magpie to hear amazingly talented readers with professional audio quality

Horrible, but then Libervox audiobooks usually are 😹 in fairness, the male reader is very good. Too bad he didn’t read the whole of this. 😢

The fact that there exists a free audiobook version of this symbolic masterpiece by Flaubert, is fantastic. The narrators' voice will probably only please the ears of those who can appreciate the extra surreal effect it has on an already surreal text. And that's great too 😁

jesus christ .. the victorian style is so difficult to hear and digest. someone needs to abridge this tastefully so that it’s more approachable to today’s audience. this book is more important than ever in this day and age.
