@SatsumaFIN with all due respect,there's no need to argue on this very case,for such treaties had been made throughout the history,it's nothing special.Here two big guys decided to clear their issues and share their areas of interest. I never said whether it was good or bad, it's just the way it is.And history is written by victors. If USSR\Third Reich were still around you wouldn't have asked that. Just the way you don't ask about several dozens of wars fought by US Army for the past 50 years.

@SatsumaFIN And as I already said once the mannerheim line was broken, Finland accepted the worst terms possible, just to save it's independence. Stalin after all had a good cause to annex Finland according to Molotov-Ribbentrop pact and the fact that Finland had been part of the Russian Empire, which lands Stalin was gathering back.

@SatsumaFIN finns fought good and bravely, I never denied that. So did soviet soldiers. The main reason soviets had such casualties is the fact that soviet generals were absolutely incompetent (unlike generals soviets had by the end of WWII).

You can't possibly erase the fact that it was a real military miracle that Finland could, as the only nation during World War II, stop a huge Red Army and not being occupied.

@JORMUNREKKR In the start of the war Red Army used four main armies (7th,8th, 9th and 14th army). One attacked between the Finnish Gulf and Lake Ladoga, one on the north side of that lake, one approximately on the height of Oulu and the last attacked to the northern Lapland. All of the armies had different objectives. Attack against Mannerheim-line became priority at the end of the war when Finnish troops was supposed to crush on one place after all the previous attacks were stopped

One main goal was to cut Finland in half so that the south and north would have been seperated. And that border, actually, was approximately 1000km long (nowadays it is little over 1300). You just can't say that Red Army was stopped in "narrow passage with quite a few defense lines". Finland's defence relied on the mobility of its forces.

And if you only cared to esteem the distance between the finnish gulf and ladoga lake (exactly where the mannerheim defensive fortification line was) you would've known that the narrowest place between there is only about 55km, while the widest is about 110km. Heck, even the distance between Moscow and Helsinki is less than 900km, what are you talking about?

@TheQneb it's not a big deal to stop an army in that narrow passage with quite a few defense lines (during a winter, with forrests and swamps all around) while sitting in bunkers shooting everything that manages to get close without getting freezed or stucked. And still manage to loose. Some great history indeed, if you only managed to read it more carefully.
