Bought my Rambo knife from Consumers Distributing for $10 when l was a teenager. It looked pretty cool until you had to actually use that piece of garbage. Only own two fixed blade knives. The mrs bought me a Buck 119 Special in 1989. It’s a great easy to sharpen camping knife but, its too heavy to carry. Was constantly having to pull up my pants and tighten my belt! Brought my first new fixed blade a few months ago. Picked up a North Arm Bird and Trout knife. l’m very happy with it :)

Not sure what you are talking about. The leather strop is for honing. Leather is by far the best material to sharpen edc knives and put a very fine edge on a knife. You dont use compound if it is very expensive high grade material. The higher the grit the more it takes off. Leather is for making it razer sharp. Obvioulsy you cant use leather to make a completely new edge on a knife. And yes you can use that setup to sharpen knives. Most people free hand it.

Certainly better than carbide pull-through sharpeners. Seems like it is a decent choice for a regular joe, but probably a poor choice as a primary knife sharpening choice for a knife nerd. Lately, I've not been careful enough resulting in cutting and stabbing myself too. Thankfully very minor in the grand scheme of things.
