I love music, I love Sigur Ros.... But if I HAD to chose just one album to listen to for the rest of my life....my desert island record.... It would be the album Von. It might take 20 listens to finally GET it(as it did for me), but now, after easily 100 full listens...I can say with total sincerity that it has saved and changed my life on more than one occasion. It isn't an album of "songs." It's an album that changes you over the course of an hour journey. I can't say enough about it....and it makes me laugh to remember the first time I ever heard that album in full.......I hated it. Did nothing for me. That still blows my mind.

I just can't hear the ressemblance between the tunes from the ''Von'' album and the one from the lives (this one or the Heim or others)??

Great atmospheric record, but the 6-minute silence is too much for me

@@mathias841 same. The live versions are entirely different. It's SUCH a studio album tho.

I guess this is so rare because it was with Àgust on drums from the Von LP. He went shortly after that, so maybe they decided to newly create this masterpiece so they could keep playing it live without his drum part.

When a friend introduced me to Sigur Ros some month ago this was the first song I listened to. Now, that I have been listening to all their albums for like 100 times each and knowing everything about them this one is still my all thime fave.

Jimmy wasn't the first to do it, though. No disrespect to either Jónsi or Jimmy, though, as you said of yourself, I am a massive Sigur Rós fan and certainly have a lot of admiration for Jimmy Page :) What I love about Jónsi's use is that isn't a gimmick, it becomes part of their sound throughout their catalogue, whereas what I've seen of others it seemed a bit more of an experiment and sometimes a bit of an on-stage wank :P

You realize most bands generally don't have to fill big venues to make a lot of money, right? Bands can pull in about $5,000 a night after paying venue fees for only half filling small venues like House of Blues, right? You don't have to make it big to perform music and do what you love for a living. Too many people think that they need to live a pipe dream and make millions to make a living as a performance artist. My argument had nothing to do with wanting artists to "stay underground".
@TheDexxra13 жыл бұрын
Are you that dense? There are tons of bands out there who can fill stadiums that have sold relatively little records in the grand scheme of things. Ever hear of a band called Iron Maiden? If my argument is so deeply flawed, why are a lot of artists moving to independent labels and self-releasing albums and singles through online mediums such as iTunes and Amazon? You're so out of touch with where the modern music industry is moving that it isn't even funny.
@Aardvarked8813 жыл бұрын
You realise most bands generally have to sell a fair amount of records before they can fill the Royal Albert Hall and make decent money from touring right? Old, clichéd argument that is deeply, deeply flawed. But no you're right, Radiohead have made no money at all from record sales. Let's hope all our favourite artists stay underground so we can all feel superior about our music tastes being outside the Radio 1 chart show.
@TheDexxra13 жыл бұрын
Lol @ people who think artists actually make decent money selling records. If you want to support your favorite artists, go see them live and buy a t-shirt or two while there.
