It seems kind if hard to wage a war with bombs that don't explode... Is there any general explanation for that?

KZbin will allow blatant misinformation and rage bait that promotes stochastic terrorism, but they deem history dangerous. What a joke. Glad this popped up on my feed. It's disgusting that it was taken down, but it's nice to see that it's back :)

Mate can you please release the audio of your videos as a podcast? I love the content but it's hard to get the time to watch the videos in a single sitting. Also if Hardcore history has shown anything it's that there's an audience for 2+ hour long military history content :)

Great video but let down by the continuous mispronunciation of the name Rabaul. It is pronounced with the last syllable sounding like ‘owl’. For God’s sake get it right.

I just love the first moments of this video. Apparently before the first test, the nuclear device almost fell to its own destruction but ‘disaster was averted’.

My great uncle, D.S.Hicks NX53090 was a Lieutenant in the 2/5 Independent Company Cavalry Squadron, subsequently renamed Commandos after their first foray into Salamaua, Wau and Bulolo in PNG in 1942. As I understand it, the independent operation bit was originally adopted because there were few resources available to supply conventional army units, and although the guerilla tactics in imitation of the Boer Kommandos in the Boer war were regarded as a bit ungentlemanly, it was adjudged that needs must when the devil drives! I have read a lot of primary resources about what they had to do and did in that campaign. Before anyone judges special forces they should understand what they have to do in the heat of battle.

My grandfather was a corporal in the 2/23rd Battalion and was involved this one. Because I served in the army and deployed to Timor, he wasn't as reluctant to talk about 'the war' as he was with his own children or other grand kids. Never anything in great detail, but the stuff he mentioned about fighting the Japanese was always in a different tone compared to his recollections of the Germans or Italians in North Africa. After he passed my Mum took procession of his diaries. Amazing amounts of detail not only on his daily activities, but some really insightful observations regarding the operational situation and leadership within his battalion. Of particular note were his diary entries regarding the amphibious landings at Lae, the death of LTCOL Wall and temporary command by major McRae. These diaries and his other items such as admin notebooks, training pamphlets with his notations etc, made me realise how professional he was as a NCO and displayed a level of education and observation skill that was lost on the family as a result of a difficult post war life plagued by alcoholism and PTSD. My only regret is i never saw these diaries while he was alive, as I suspect he would've elaborated further on his diary entries, just as he did when he gave me the 2/23rd Battalion history to read and he fleshed out more details regarding the 'official Battalion narrative' and his observations at the time. As it was, knowing that a lot of veterans were reluctant to discuss the war and took a lot of important family history to their graves, I was blessed to have the relationship we had were I could discuss his experiences.

i think that a part that was missed is i think Argentina assumed the USA would have stayed out of the war and just let it happen as the us supported both sides but in fact the US threw weight behind the UK forces which really helped in the decision to fight

Hi thank you very much for this very fascinating video Today the most powerful conventional bomb is about 8 ton of TNT ? 10 ton ? 1kg of TNT costs around 500 dollars This means that a 10 ton bomb costs around 5 million dollars I wonder how much it would be a lets say 10 ton TNT equivalent nuclear bomb Just for curiosity

@hypotheticalhistory - not withstanding the good (relatively speaking) current Aussie-Indonesian relationship - do you think the Indonesian order for F-15EX puts Australia a little bit on the back foot, with the "replacement" of Aussie's F-111s with F/A-18Es and the absence of a long legged air superiority fighter in the RAAF?

I've heard furphies about the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne been warned out about possible attachment providing air support to the British fleet. Highly improbable given the domestic political environment and the interoperability issues of operating the same A4 Sky Hawks as the OPFOR. Anyhow, I always put thought those stories where simply A-grade Furphs, nothing more, nothing less.

Just re-listening to this one in the background while doing something else and felt I had to describe how my brain decided that the phrase "Gunner Lindon was manning his 18-pounder" should be passed up to conscious level for assessment. snicker Edit: Just got to the part where he was your grandfather. Hope I didn't offend you with my comments about his weapon. Congrats if you inherited his large-caliber genetics.

Another great video mate. I think the NZDF force should just have an amphibious army, an air force with lots of maritime patrol planes (with MQ28A's), chinooks/NH90's and C130-J's (NSM/JSM Rapid Dragon? if they can't get LRASM) and a navy that has an Anzac class replacement, the HMNZS Aotearoa for disaster relief and being a UUV/USV mothership ect and enough patrol boats for there Pacific and Antarctic areas and defence treaty obligations. Maybe also an icebreaker in the future possibly.

This is a really good video. I don't think I'd seen it before the reupload. You've done a fantastic job of covering pretty much every single point that it's important for an ordinary person to understand about nuclear weapons, to just the level of depth required in each case. If I ever have to recommend one single video to someone who wants to have a working understanding of the entirety of the subject, it'll be this one.

I’m reminded of all the young servicemen lost, due to this war, every time I walk past the grave of a 20 year old Iraq war veteran located near my mother’s burial site. As a proud US Navy veteran myself, my emotions become mixed just thinking about that fallen young Marine’s potential and future… R.I.P. 🇺🇸
