I was told that social security is a form of socialism. Does anyone know about that?

Good overview. As with many things, lobbying is the quiet menace behind much of it. Most people don't realize how fundamentally corporate lobbying has changed how our economy operates for the worse. Legislation is passed that sounds like it will help, but it just makes everything more legally muddy and complicated so only those with a legal team can navigate it. The court system is also weaponized, because if a small company is sued for a completely bogus reason by a large corporation they still almost always go bankrupt from the legal expenses as the corporation intentionally drags it out. These two things, I think, are the basis of why the anticompetitive practices that allow planned obsolescence and many other issues to exist are able to persist. It's all about crippling small businesses- because they are the ones that are able to disrupt the status quo and send monopolies and cartels crashing down. In a free market, small company doesn't need to make their products break down in order to sell more, because they still have the whole world as their marketplace. And once people realize they are better, demand explodes and the stagnant corporations bloated with bureaucracy and overhead, can't adapt quickly enough and can actually get bankrupted. If there is a monopoly overcharging for a product, the same thing happens. In the real world, the small company is sued for some nonsense patent infringement claim, bankrupted, assets bought out by the corporation. And if the corporation is in trouble, it is bailed out by the government because it's "not allowed to fail" because it's too big and would have a detrimental effect on the economy, supposedly. In reality, this releases a ton of workers skilled in the trade into the workforce to start and join companies in a thriving new industry that can do better than the original. Think Boeing. Most problems with capitalism stem not from capitalism itself but the corrupt government. The way to fix it is not more government legislation, but smaller government. Unfortunately, these same principles tend to apply to governments, since they are little more than giant corporations... They only grow, they don't shrink, and eventually they get bloated, outcompeted, and they fail, sometimes slowly, sometimes catastrophically. Sorry for the essay. Just some thoughts about the topic.

Basically, the government is expending lavishly at the expense of the people. Education is too expensive, medically bills the same thing, yet they dole out money to finance war, aid to midwestern countries. And the politician are fatten while the populace suffers.

so the us population never thought about a thing called retirement? The government saw the darkness that the population would come to and decided they needed the children to pay.

Memorial Hall: 4500 seats with each one behind a post. Yes the lobby is awesome, but the acoustics were dreadful, the site-lines were appalling and the restrooms and HVAC were very bad even in the 1970's. There is a reason why the Schuster center was built, you know it as Memorial Hall.

Was a great video until you started talking about more taxes and continuing to fund a program that never work in the long term. 🙄
@phillipduvall86383 ай бұрын
Raising the retirement age isnt a solution, it only kicks the can further down the road as you yourself pointed out. The issue we have is the same one that caused the fund to dry up, it's greed and incompetence. The little wealth we have is continuously being funneled away from us and disappeared. People entering retirement age in a decade or two likely wont be able to survive on it. I realize the idea of retiring is new and its not global but that doesnt change the fact that we're being lied to and stolen from. Doing more of the same thing wont suddenly bring us prosperity.

I saw a "redlining" map of Dayton Ohio from 1940. All Southern and Eastern European immigrants were classified as "low class immigrants". My Father's family were Hungarian, and lived in the Near West Side - between W 3rd Street and the Wolf Creek - or in Old North Dayton. As a small child in the 1970's I heard a lot of accents ( first generation immigrants / children of 1st gen immigrants tended to marry into similar backgrounds) In retrospect, I realize that my Great grandparents lived in "redlined" areas their entire lives, and that I grew up in an area ( in South Park) which would have been designated similarly in an earlier era. Dayton has a relatively small population of African Americans and was unusually segregated by Black/White until about 20 years ago. Times change. Progress must happen.

Ma'am , since you are eating in your car you can bring your own ketchup to add to cut the tangy flavor if you like ketchup, just a tip , i like the tangy , no ketchup & some maid places do not carry ketchup as they think it detracts from the taste of the Sammich

@History Is Fun, You 2 make a great couple & you are on my play list so i see this video nearly everyday. I don't know your first names , but I think I am like your husband Ma'am , this would be a regular for me if I had a Maid-Rite nearby & I rarely eat ketchup on anything especially a burger or hot dog , so his sammich works for me. They do sell Mike Sells here in north central Kentucky though.

You should do a video on orthodox oil lamps. İn greek orthodox churches they use olive oil in a cup like vessel. And a linnen or cotton wick coated in wax, is inserted into a holder. This holder is made of a round or clover shaped piece of cork that is covered in a thin piece of metal. The holder is placed in the oil reservoir, and because its cork it floats on the oil. Because it floats there is no need to adjust it and the wick can be adjusted for more or less light. A 200ml cup of oil can burn for up to 12 hours or more unattened. They are often used as votive lamps in religious homes. My grandmother would make a wick for these lamps out of the calyx of a plant that i still have growing in my garden. İ might have to try it out, now that your videos have reminded me!

İ have one tiiinyyy issue with your video ....im sorry im that nature nerd. When your talking about bees and the wax veing hsrvested....your actually showing a wasp nest. İ know its just to get a point across. But those are likely paper wasps, that chew up wood and use saliva to make the cells and th nest. Oim sorry haha ..but otherwise great

My greek grandmother and her sister would make candles in our backyard snd sell them to orthodox chuches. Orthodox tradition requires the use of beeswax for candles. And typically cotton or linnen wicks are used. My grandmother would use cotton and the dipping technique.

My people just went through it...basically everything you said the banks did. She 76 and I stopped her from refinancing her "4 BEDROOM 3 FULL BATHS" house. Oh and it's tri level with full basement and attic. But the appraisal was the first part of the rip off. Tried to give $130,000 appraisal while ranch style homes appraised around that much...so ranch style for record is one level 3 bedroom one bath. Told us 2 levels didn't count (down stairs living room with wood burning fireplace one bedroom and one bathroom and full basement)
